The Vienna Design Week will transform the entire city into a festival of creativity from 25 September to 4 October 2026. In unusual locations such as apartments, shops, or public spaces, designers will present their ideas on product, graphic, and social design. With exhibitions, talks, and workshops, the festival offers exciting insights into the role of design in everyday life. A highlight each year is the focus on one Viennese district, opening a dialogue between design and the city.
On Friday, September 4, 2026, the 5th Long Night of Vienna’s Markets invites visitors to a nighttime stroll from 6 pm to 11 pm with free admission. In addition to all 17 permanent Viennese markets, this year the market area at the Naschmarkt and three popular weekly markets are also participating. Visitors can expect culinary highlights and over 150 hours of live music, art, and shows. Furthermore, the first 10,000 visitors will receive a free tote bag and, by collecting stamps, will have the chance to win one of 230 generously filled market gift baskets.
From September 11th to 13th, 2026, the Vienna Coffee Festival will bring together everything related to the world of coffee at Vienna’s Marx Halle. You can expect tastings, workshops, open stages, and guided tours, and not only discover flavor profiles and brewing methods, but also learn interesting information from experts.
From 23 to 27 September 2026, Vienna will host the Vienna Humanities Festival, a meeting point for thinkers, authors, and activists from all over the world. At renowned venues such as the Wien Museum, the RadioKultursaal, the Volkstheater, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and the Bruno Kreisky Forum, lectures, panel discussions, and debates on politics, ecology, and society will take place. The festival invites audiences to reflect and participate, making today’s key issues accessible to a wide public.
On Saturday, September 12, 2026, Vienna’s Zieglergasse will be transformed into a vibrant literary mile from 2 pm to 10 pm, with free admission. At over ten venues, you can expect readings by renowned authors, live music, workshops, and a diverse children’s program. Join the opening concert of the 2026 Literary Mile by jazz musician Carlos Emilio at 2:30 pm.
From September 16 to 27, 2026, the tenth Vienna Music Theatre Days (MTTW) will be dedicated to the fascinating exploration of the unknown. The festival for contemporary music and theatre will take place in extraordinary Viennese venues such as St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Favoriten Water Tower, the WUK, and the Odeon. Audiences can expect outstanding world premieres and interactive performances. The program is complemented by a diverse range of lectures and workshops. Some events and workshops are free, but tickets are required for professional performances.
On 12 and 13 September 2026, Vienna will celebrate Austria’s largest harvest festival at Heldenplatz. A colorful farmers’ market with regional specialties, accompanied by folk music, dances, and parades, will bring rural flair to the heart of the city. Families can also enjoy a varied program with petting animals, demonstrations, and games. Against the impressive backdrop of the Hofburg, rural traditions come alive for everyone.
On September 27, 2026, Vienna will open numerous historical buildings and museums to visitors free of charge for Open Monument Day. Under the motto “Monuments: Value for All,” monuments and tours will demonstrate the social, cultural, ecological, and economic value that monuments hold for us all. A day full of history, culture, and discoveries for families, culture enthusiasts, and the simply curious.
September brings a vibrant mix of culinary festivals and street culture to Vienna. From the European Street Food Festival in front of the Vienna City Hall and the Harvest Festival at Heldenplatz to the Vienna Coffee Festival at Marx Halle, everything revolves around enjoyment and entertainment. On Danube Island, Veganmania attracts visitors with plant-based street food and live music, while the Vienna Rum Festival at the Ottakringer Brewery celebrates Caribbean and Mexican flavors. For three weeks, the city transforms into a showcase of taste, music, and street culture.
