The Infinity Book Tower is located in the Municipal Library in Prague. It was built by the Slovak artist Matej Křen and is made of eight thousand books. It is called the idiom or tower of knowledge and symbolizes the infinity of knowledge. You can understand it if you look inside through a special hole in a column of hardback books.
in front of Quadrio Shopping Mall
Address: Charvátova, 110 00 New Town, Prague
The moving head is made of stainless steel and consists of 42 horizontal rotating parts and it is 10.6 meters high. It depicts Franz Kafka, who was one of the most important Czech writers of the 20th century. His iconic works include the novel The Metamorphosis, novels The Trial and The Castle. His Rotating Head is the work of controversial artist David Černý.
at Palace Lucerna
Address: Vodičkova 704/36, Prague
Have you ever taken an elevator that doesn’t stop? It goes round and round and you just have to jump on? If not, you definitely need to stop by the Lucerna Palace. Here you will find the orbital elevator, which had its greatest glory during the First Republic, but still entertains children of all ages today.
Address: Anezká 1043/4, Prague
The smallest house in Prague can be found on Anežská Street in Prague. The cute green house is only 2.25 meters wide. And interestingly enough, it was a brothel for 40 years. The house was built in 1853 according to the project of architect Josef Liebl and today it is a protected cultural monument.
in the House of the Black Madonna
Address: Ovocny try 19, Prague
The House of the Black Mother of God is a masterpiece of Czech cubist architecture. The staircase of the Museum of Czech Cubism in Prague in the building of the Black Madonna has a peculiar shape, it resembles a light bulb. You don’t have to pay to enter the museum, and it’s best to come at midday when the sun is directly over the building. Look up and down, both views are great.
Address: Velkopřevorské nám., 118 00 Malá Strana, Prague
All fans of the Beatles, John Lennon and graffiti should definitely stop by the Lennon Wall in the Maltese Garden on Velkopřevorské Square in Mala Strana. In the past, the people of Prague used to call this wall the “Wailing Wall”, probably because people used to leave various messages and love poems on this wall.
in Malá Strana
Address: U Lužického semináře street, Prague
It’s so narrow that traffic lights have been installed to facilitate the passage of pedestrians. You can find that in Vinarna Certovka, in the heart of Prague’s oldest district, the historic Mala Strana. Here it is impossible for two people to pass at the same time as the small street is only 50 centimeters wide.
Address: intersection of Husova and Skorepka Streets
This interesting work can be found on Husova Street towards the house U Sladkých. The sculpture from 1996 depicts Sigmund Freud hanging by one arm with the other hand in his pocket. The funny thing is that while the statue was in the US, people called the fire department and ambulance because they thought it was a living person 🙂
at Lucerna Palace
Address: Vodičkova 704/36
The Upside-down horse is also the work of Czech artist David Černý and is located in the Art Nouveau building at 61 Stepánská Street. The statue depicts St. Wenceslas, the Czech king and saint, sitting on the belly of a dead horse hanging by his legs from the ceiling and is meant to be a mocking reference to the famous statue of St. Wenceslas in Wenceslas Square.
