From March 23 to 29, 2026, Prague’s Kino Aero will once again transform into a haven for lovers of film trash, B-movies, C-movies, and the wildest cinematic excesses. The Festival of the hardened spectator traditionally presents a selection of films that balance on the edge of bad taste, kitsch, camp, and pure entertainment.
During one “tough” week, the curatorial team will present nearly 20 screenings, including forgotten horror films, shocking gore, low-budget experiments, and bizarre cinematic curiosities. The festival deliberately avoids mainstream productions commonly available in cinemas and on television, focusing instead on films that are peculiar, exaggerated, sometimes unintentionally funny – and therefore unforgettable.
“Toughness” can take many forms. For some, it means extreme violence; for others, unbearable kitsch or over-the-top 1980s action scenes. The Festival of the Tough Viewer embraces these elements and turns them into a collective experience fueled by the energy of the audience.
It’s not just about the screenings themselves. Visitors can look forward to the popular live dubbing, themed decorations, special drinks, lectures, bingo, and other playful side events that transform a regular cinema visit into an interactive show. Simultaneous translation and moments when the action spills from the screen into the auditorium are also part of the experience.
The Festival of the Tough Viewer is not for everyone – and that is precisely its charm. If you want to experience film differently than in a quiet, polished multiplex, get ready for a week full of absurdity, laughter, shock, and joyful cinematic exaggeration.
