At the beginning of December, Prague will once again immerse itself in the atmosphere of Asian cinema. From 4 to 8 December 2025, Bio Oko will host Filmasia 2025 — a traditional showcase of films that have made a strong impact at festivals and cinemas around the world.
Since 2005, Filmasia has been presenting Czech audiences with the most interesting and innovative works from the Asian film world. In 2025, the festival celebrates an impressive twenty years of existence, during which it has screened nearly 250 films from South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Filmasia is the festival that introduced Czech audiences to the works of now-famous filmmakers such as Park Chan-wook, Kim Ki-duk, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Johnnie To, Wong Kar-wai, Tsai Ming-liang, Takashi Miike, and Oscar-winner Bong Joon-ho. Many of their films had their Czech premieres right here, highlighting the festival’s exceptional curatorial approach.
Each year, the Filmasia program combines award-winning titles, cult classics, and lesser-known gems that significantly shape the face of contemporary Asian cinema. As in previous years, the festival will also include a student film section — a space where viewers can discover future stars of Asian filmmaking and explore the creative worlds of emerging directors.
Filmasia 2025 promises not only remarkable cinematic experiences but also a deeper understanding of the cultures, emotions, and aesthetic approaches that make Asian cinema one of the most dynamic phenomena of today. For film enthusiasts, it stands as one of the highlights of Prague’s cultural season.
