As the festive season also includes Christmas markets, you will find many of them all over Prague. The market on Old Town Square is probably the most famous of them all. As is usual with these themed markets, you can choose from a range of traditional Christmas specialities, refreshments and stalls selling goods and decorations. The organisers of these markets have prepared a great Christmas programme full of carols and singing performances that will surely put you in the Christmas spirit!
This year you have the opportunity to take part in the annual Advent Fair at New Street Town Hall. The fair will offer traditional festivities, crafts, refreshments, toys and creative workshops to spark your imagination and test your skills. What’s more, it’s suitable for all the family as it will offer a packed programme including theatre performances, choir performances and much more. On the second weekend of Advent, you will also be able to climb the gallery of the New Town Hall observation tower for the last time and enjoy a beautiful view of the centuries-old Mother City of Prague.
An unusual Christmas market will take place in Prague on 10 December. Come to the corridors of the Church of St. Thomas, where you will have the opportunity to taste typical Venezuelan Christmas dishes that you have never seen in Prague before, in addition to sweets, hot drinks and handicrafts. The Venezuelan market will include a cultural program with traditional Venezuelan carols, live music, piñata, face painting, raffle, a visit of St. Nicholas with gifts for children and other attractions.
Come and enjoy Christmas at the beautiful Chval Castle with themed events and a busy programme prepared by the organisers. The events are suitable for the whole family. This year you can look forward to a Christmas courtyard with a festive atmosphere, trees, carol singing, warm fragrant refreshments and a nativity scene. There will be various workshops, such as those where you can make your own candle or gingerbread house. Entrance to the courtyard is free.
Zoo Prague has prepared a set of guided feedings for the Christmas period. The animals in the zoo will get a taste of the gifts you brought them on Christmas Eve. In addition, the organizers have not forgotten about the unsold Christmas trees! They will be distributed to the ungulates! Visitors can look forward to a packed programme full of familiar things – guided feedings and encounters. On Christmas Eve and both Christmas holidays (from 24 to 26 December), children under 15 years of age will be admitted to the zoo for CZK 1.
Come and buy your Christmas gifts at the ceramic market at the Exhibition Grounds during the first week of December! Support over 130 local artisans from around the country who will be coming with their wares, such as glassblowers, blacksmiths, cutters, weavers and many other traditional and non-traditional crafts. In addition, you can enjoy Christmas cookies, gingerbread, fondant, mead, a stylish tea room and mulled wine and much more!
The 10th edition of the biggest vegan Christmas event Veggie Christmas will take place on 17 December at the Prague Slavic House. Be inspired to be a little more respectful to yourself, animals and the planet. Shop at the Christmas Vegan Market for gifts that are also zero waste or plant-based, and get inspired about what to put on the Christmas table and how to include more plant-based (veggie) foods in 2024.
Come and support the traditional charity event Mikulášský bazar, which will take place on 5 December 2023 in Prague. Holiday cheer, tea with friends awaits the participants. They can buy Christmas gifts in advance and contribute to charitable causes. The youngest participants can look forward to St. Nicholas accompanied by an angel and a devil. At the end of the afternoon, they will also be able to sing the most famous Czech carols on the stage of the Prague Crossroads alongside Mrs. Dagmar Havel and many other well-known personalities.
During Advent you will have the opportunity to visit the beautiful garden of Straka Academy in Prague. Every Sunday, enjoy the Christmas atmosphere with your friends and loved ones at various musical performances by pupils and students of art schools, students of the Prague Conservatory and the Jaroslav Ježek Higher Vocational School, always from 5 pm. The programme will always include thematic Czech and foreign Christmas songs and carols. Entrance to the garden will be free through the gate from Kosárkova nábřeží.
This Advent season you will have a unique opportunity to attend the 17th series of Sunday pre-Christmas concerts, which will take place in Radotín in Prague 5. During each of them, visitors can look forward to a series of classical music concerts performed by soprano Markéta Fassati, accompanied by violinist Jakub Janský and pianist Jiřina Marešová. Other concerts will feature the guitar virtuoso Štěpán Rak and the orchestra of the teachers of the Klement Slavický Elementary School in Radotín.
If you like sports activities, visit the Prague Exhibition Centre where you can try one of the most popular winter sports – ice skating. Come and skate in the indoor sports hall at the Exhibition Grounds. If you don’t have your own skates, don’t worry, there is a skate rental service for adults and children.
