Flax and hemp

Did you know that flax fibre is extracted from the stalk of the flax plant and is a purely natural material? No chemicals are used in the production of flax. It is the strongest natural fibre and is naturally antibacterial. And because of this, it will last longer. Linen has excellent thermoregulating properties, is extremely breathable and also protects against UV rays. Its only small disadvantage is that it shrinks quickly.

Our ancestors have long known the advantages of flax, and you can see the exhibition of objects and clothing made of flax until 31 October 2024 in the ÚĽUV Gallery at Obchodná 64 in Bratislava.

The third in a series of successful and publicly popular exhibitions, Tradition Unconventionally, brings closer the timelessness of useful field plants – flax and hemp. The unique character of historical objects and products made from them in the last decades under the brand of hives will guide visitors through the inspiring past. The originality of contemporary designers and university students, whose work focuses on the sustainability, functionality and aesthetic processing of these natural materials, will outline a possible future.
