One of the biggest events in August is undoubtedly the Lovestream festival. The third edition of the three-day LOVESTREAM festival brings big names to Bratislava, which undoubtedly include Rita Ora and 50 Cent, as well as performers such as Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Tom Walker, Ray Dalton, Dennis Lloyd, Joker Out, Rosa Linn and Tujamo. Don’t forget, on the third weekend of August, Bratislava will be treated to three days of great music, right at the Old Vajnory Airport in Bratislava.
A very popular event in Bratislava is undoubtedly the Bratislava Coronation Days. This year, the former royal city will once again bring the past to life. You can witness the coronations as they used to be from 16 to 18 August 2024. A coronation procession will parade through the streets of the city, with participants in period costumes and with the appropriate props to set the right mood. Themed city tours, a coronation procession and a return to the days of the knights await you.
In August, we invite you to the 15th Tribute to Freedom concert under Devín. The concert has been an integral part of the cultural and social events in Bratislava since 2009. The venue is not on Devín by chance, this imposing castle is an important part of our history and also the place under which the Iron Curtain ran. This year’s festival will feature three ladies of the Slovak music scene – Jana Kirschner, Katarína Knechtová and Sima Magušinová. You can enjoy this exceptional concert on 16 August 2024.
Beautiful compositions from the world-famous operettas The Princess Charming, Countess Maritza, The Duchess of Chicago, The Merry Widow and arias from the musicals Bon vivant, The Bodyguard, Mamma Mia!, Cats/Cats, Oliver!, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Les Misérables/Beders and Moses, accompanied by a symphony orchestra, will be performed on 27 and 28 August 2024 at Bratislava Castle. Conducted by Peter Valentovič.
Another great event at the Bratislava Castle is the concert Cyrano from the suburbs. The Slovak musical in a modern version and its most beautiful songs will be performed this time by the soloists of the Nova Scena Theatre. The classic story of Cyrano’s unrequited love for Roxane, brought to the present day by the authors. The audience can enjoy the most famous songs “Ja nemám lásku v malíčku”, “Tŕňová kráľovná”, “Kúpim si zrkadlo” and others. Ján Slezák as Cyrano, Mirka Gális Partlová as Roxana, Dárius Koči as Ján in rock and ballad songs that have been known for generations.
On selected Tuesdays during these holidays, you can experience the atmosphere of the Musketeer era. Interesting fencing performances, theatrical sketches, cold and fire weapons, resounding drums and blades await you. Experience the atmosphere of times gone by in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall. The event takes place on Tuesdays from 6.30 p.m. on 1 August, 8 August and 22 August in the heart of Bratislava, in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall.
The ninth edition of the romantic event Wine Under the Stars will take place on 2 – 4 August in the vineyards of Pezinok. In addition to wine, you can expect performances by several great bands and artists, such as Helenine oči, Slobodná Europa, Hex, Vidiek, The Curly Simon, Gleb and others.
Bratislava’s cultural summer continues in August with the Cultural Summer on the Walls. Take your little ones and come and have fun on the city walls, a rich programme, concerts, accompanying events for children and much more awaits you. You can look forward to chamber concerts, spoken word art, DJ sets and film screenings in collaboration with Film Europe. The excellent acoustics and magical experience of the cinema under the stars will be made more pleasant by the offer of Bratislava winemakers.
The first Saturday in August will belong to knights at Devín Castle. Thanks to them, you will be transported back to the Middle Ages. And what awaits you? Demonstrations of combat readiness, which will be shown by Turkish janissaries – the heyday of the Ottoman army. A fencing and theatrical performance from the medieval period about the judicial system of the time and the resolution of disputes through duels and “divine courts”. Renaissance dances, heroes of the anti-Turkish battles and a magician and his hilarious tricks will not be missing.
What would summer be without the Uprising Festival? “A festival that brings together people of different countries, cultures and races” has become an essential part of summer not only for Slovakia, but also for other neighbouring countries. Founded in 2008, it has grown to become the largest Central European festival that focuses on reggae. On the last weekend of August you can expect two days full of interesting programme, four main stages, many smaller ones and several different genres, from reggae, to Latin, ska, hip-hop, to dubstep and dnb. In addition to great music, you can enjoy various side events such as meditation, yoga and sound healing. The non-music accompanying programme includes discussions, lectures, stand-ups or creative workshops and short film screenings. The youngest visitors are also welcome, for whom there will be a children’s zone with special activities.
