Don’t forget, on the third weekend of August, Bratislava will be treated to three days of great music, right at the Old Vajnory Airport in Bratislava.
Do you also lead a sedentary lifestyle? Then we have something for you. Little exercise and lots of sitting at work takes its toll on most of us, either extra pounds or a sore back. And yoga is a way to cope with this problem and also improve your overall fitness – in this case in the pleasant surroundings of the Medicka Garden and under the supervision of experienced teachers. Come to this tranquil place to recharge your energy, and to learn new exercises and postures that will help with concentration and overall balance. The exercises are suitable for beginners, but even the more advanced won’t be bored as there will be challenges such as headstands and handstands. Every Tuesday and Thursday, in the morning from 7:30am to 8:30am or in the evening from 6pm to 7pm in the Medicka Garden, opposite the playground, under the old acacia tree.
We invite you to the 14th Tribute to Freedom concert under Devín. Since 2009, the concert has been an integral part of the cultural and social events in Bratislava, with an outreach to the whole of Slovakia. The venue is not on Devín by chance, this imposing castle is an important part of our history and also the place under which the Iron Curtain ran. This year’s event is subtitled ALL THE BEST LEGENDS! It will commemorate, through their works, the life anniversaries of artists of the Czech-Slovak and Slovak music scene: Olympic, Peter Lipa, Ján Lehotský and Pavol Hammel. You can enjoy this exceptional concert on 18 August.
The atmosphere of Red Cat Cabaret and the energy of Flamenco sounds like the right mix for an unforgettable evening! A thrilling music and dance show in FLAMENCO style. Songs in “flamenco style” accompanied by dance entrances in beautiful costumes will take you far away from everyday life, already on the first Thursday of August at the Red Cat Cabaret Club on Obchodná Street.
Since we still have holidays, we can’t miss the concert for children. Miro Jaroš is here again to make all children happy, this time in Senec. During the one-hour concert, all your favourite songs will be played and surprises await you. Take your children and come and sing and dance with them to catchy songs at the Račiansky Amphitheatre on Friday, 25 August.
On selected Tuesdays during these holidays, you can experience the atmosphere of the Musketeer era. Interesting fencing performances, theatrical sketches, cold and fire weapons, resounding drums and blades await you. Experience the atmosphere of times gone by in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall. The event takes place on Tuesdays from 6.30 p.m. on 1 August, 8 August and 22 August in the heart of Bratislava, in the courtyard of the Old Town Hall.
The eighth year of the romantic event Wine Under the Stars will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 4-5, in the vineyards of Pezinok. In addition to wine, you can expect performances by several great bands and artists, such as Para, Iné Kafe, Jana Kirschner, Billy Barman and the girls from SĽUK, as well as Shantel, Nerieš, The Youniverse, Saymi, Funny Fellows and others.
Bratislava’s cultural summer continues in August with the Cultural Summer on the Walls. Take your little ones and come and have fun on Friday 25 August on the city walls, a rich programme, concerts, accompanying events for children and much more awaits you. Enjoy chamber concerts, spoken word art, DJ sets and film screenings in collaboration with Film Europe. The excellent acoustics and magical experience of the cinema under the stars will be made more pleasant by the offer of Bratislava winemakers.
The first Saturday in August will belong to knights at Devín Castle. Thanks to them, you will be transported to the Renaissance period. And what awaits you? Demonstrations of combat readiness by the Janissaries – the height of the Ottoman army. But also an entertaining glimpse into the first half of the 16th century, when the European battlefields were criss-crossed by the warriors of the “Landsknechts”, accompanied by no less martial women. Renaissance dances, heroes of the anti-Turkish battles and Kaukliar Pet and his hilarious stunts will not be missed either.
What would summer be without the Uprising Festival? “A festival that brings together people of different countries, cultures and races” has become an essential part of summer not only for Slovakia, but also for other neighbouring countries. Founded in 2008, it has grown to become the largest Central European festival that focuses on reggae. On the last weekend of August, you can expect two days full of an interesting programme, four main stages, many smaller ones and several different genres, from reggae, to Latin, ska, hip-hop, to dubstep and dnb. In addition to great music, you can enjoy various side events such as meditation, yoga and sound healing. The non-music accompanying programme includes discussions, lectures, stand-ups or creative workshops and short film screenings. The youngest visitors are also welcome, for whom there will be a children’s zone with special activities.
