1. The Garfield movie

The popular orange cat Garfield is back! The great lover of lasagna and sleep is back in a new animated comedy. When his lost What’s it all about? Garfield decides to go on an adventure with his dad, but soon discovers that his dad has a secret. This, however differently, will bring an avalanche of funny situations.

2. The Fall Guy

The beginning of May will also bring the action drama Stuntman starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt to cinemas. Expect 128 minutes of suspense and drama about a stuntman who, fresh from the accident that nearly ended his career, must track down a lost movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life. And in doing so, he has to go to work every day. What could possibly go wrong?

3. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2

Macko Puf, Piglet, Tiger and Owl. Four well-known characters from the fairytale forest, which all children love, will be presented in a completely different way this time. It’s been five months since the Stoker’s Wood massacre and Christopher Robin is still seeing a psychologist to come to terms with the horrific events. But no one believes him. So the psychologist tries to trigger his childhood memories. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is the sequel to the successful horror film, which features even more genre elements, the best of the horror tradition.

4. Tarot

Also another invitation to the cinema is especially for those who love horror movies. When a group of friends break the card divination card’s basic rule and use someone else’s cards to interpret the future, they unwittingly unleash the evil residing in the cursed tarot cards. Gradually, they find themselves face-to-face with their divined destiny and fall victim to the frightening apparitions of the devil cards. How they turn out, you will find out in the cinema.

5. The Old Oak

A film from last year that premiered this month tells the story of a village in the North East of England where a mine has closed. Many young people have left and the once prosperous and proud community struggles to keep old values alive. But there is growing anger, resentment and a lack of hope. As houses in the village are cheap and available, it has become an ideal place for Syrian refugees. The film is showing in club cinemas.

6. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

May also brings a treat for sci-fi lovers. Director Wes Ball delivers a legendary tale, this time set several generations in the future after Caesar’s reign, where apes dominate and the human population has dwindled, living in seclusion and in the shadow of ape civilisation. However, a tyrannical ape leader arrives on the scene and builds his empire so harshly and totalitarian that one brave male ape embarks on a harrowing journey that forces him to question everything he knew about the past.

7. The Strangers

The first installment of a horror trilogy from the studio that brought you the SAW series. The film follows a young couple who travel across the country to start a new life together. On the way, their car breaks down and they are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin in the woods, where they fall victim to a mysterious group of masked strangers. The protagonist becomes a victim for no apparent reason, probably because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. How she copes, who the masked strangers are, and what their motivations are, are gradually revealed in this suspenseful horror series.

8. A difficult year

French comedy from the makers of The Untouchables about two men in debt who join a group of climate activists as they are tempted by the free food and drinks at their meetings. Albert and Bruno meet by complete chance. They discover that they have a lot in common – they are in debt up to their ears, they have housing problems and their partners have left them. For the sake of free chips and beer, they join a group of young activists. Between the banners and the smoke from the smoke stacks, the fresh friends initially find an opportunity for dirty dealings, but gradually regain their lost energy for life.

9. Together 99

Members of a Stockholm community from the 1970s reunite after a long time to rekindle old loves and find that their lives are as chaotic as before. In this black comedy, popular Swedish director Lukas Moodysson confronts a pair of friends with characters that seem completely alien to them, only to see how everything changes over time and realise that not everything in life goes completely according to plan.

10. Back to Black

If you love the music of the extraordinary singer Amy Winehouse, don’t miss her story, filmed by director Sam Taylor-Johnson. Amy Winehouse’s life and career were profoundly influenced by two people. The first was her grandmother Cynthia, who passed on to her her animal nature, her love of jazz, her desire to always go her own way and not compromise. The second person was her boyfriend Blake, and life with him was like a crazy roller coaster ride during which Amy fell into multiple addictions. Ironically, during the most difficult time of her life, when she lost both of these supports, she recorded her seminal album Back to Black, which is one of the best albums to come out of 21st century music to date.

11. Furiosa: Mad Max sága

Another sci-fi film that fantasy fans can enjoy in theaters in May is Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga. When the world has fallen, young Furiosa is plucked from the Green Place of many mothers and falls into the hands of a large biker group led by Warlord Dement. Crossing the Wasteland, they stumble upon the Citadel, presided over by Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants fight for supremacy, Furiosa must survive many trials to find her way home.

12. Children of others (2022)

A film that will break your heart. Rachel is 40 years old and has no children. She loves her life: her high school students, her friends, her ex-husband and her guitar lessons. When she falls in love with Ali, she clings to his four-year-old daughter, Leila. She puts her to bed, cares for her, loves her as her own. But loving strangers’ children is too risky.
