1. The Count of Monte Cristo

Alexandre Dumas adventure classic probably needs no introduction. A new adaptation of it arrives in cinemas this month. Come see one of the greatest epic tales of love, betrayal and the desire for revenge. Young ship’s officer Edmond Dantes is having the happiest time of his life, for he is about to become a captain and marry the beautiful Mercedes, the love of his life. Success, however, is unforgiving and Edmond falls victim to an insidious plan. He is imprisoned without trial in the dungeons of the fortress with no hope of release, and the only one he can talk to is the prisoner in the dungeon next door, Abbé Faria, who becomes Edmond’s friend and mentor. Before his death, the abbé entrusts him with the secret of a lost treasure. After years of imprisonment, Edmond manages to escape and finds the treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo. And it’s time for revenge…

2. Despicable Me 4

They are back! The most famous animated villain with his amazing family and helpers, the former master criminal, now an elite member of the Anti-Villain Squad, must face his long-time enemy this time. Gru is now mostly a caring father and husband to an amazing family, and the only problem that troubles him is his young son Gru Jr. who likes his mom Lucy much better and drives his dad permanently into a rage. But on top of that, he’s also worried about the villainous Maxim Le Mal, who bullied him in primary school. He has just escaped from prison, where he got in with Gru’s help, and is out for revenge. So Gru and his family get into the witness protection program. And a series of funny and suspenseful stories can begin.

3. Notebook of an alcoholic

How easy is it to succumb to addiction? Is it hard to admit it and get out of it? What does female addiction look like? That’s what The Alcoholic’s Notebook is all about, a candid film confession of a recovering alcoholic. Based on a true story, director Dan Svátek captures not only the fall to the bottom of society, but also the moments where one laughs. Watch the story of a young, beautiful and successful woman who becomes a mom after getting married. She doesn’t miss anything, but sometimes she has one drink, sometimes two… That’s exactly what hitting rock bottom sometimes looks like. The main character decided not to give up, to enter treatment and to fight with her demon, and for her family. Tereza Ramba excels in the lead role.

4. There’s still Tomorrow

Post-war Italy and its patriarchal rules, the housewife and the abusive husband. A powerful but also funny film about women’s strength and solidarity that broke all attendance records in Italy. It is the story of Delia, a mother of three, married to a violent husband, who is currently living the preparations for the wedding of her eldest daughter, Marcella, to a good boy from the bourgeois class, Giulio. Nothing seems to change for Delia, unlike her daughter, but the arrival of a mysterious letter changes everything.

5. Race For Glory

German Audi and Italian Lancia and one of the greatest sporting rivalries of all time from the 1980s. See the story of these two car companies and their greatest duel from 1983, when the World Rally Championship was held. Audi may have been the clear favourite, but Lancia wasn’t giving up. And so cars, racers and engineers were pitted against each other. Take an authentic journey back to the 1980s and enjoy a spectacular sports car race.

6. Twisters

Storm season is picking up, making it an ideal time for storm chasers. During one of them, former storm chaser Kate Cooper and somewhat lighthearted social media star Tyler Owens meet. In Tornado Valley, they’re in for some storm hell. The pair and their competing teams will find themselves directly in the path of multiple storm systems, where, as they otherwise would, they will be risking their own lives….

7. The Exorcism

The great Russell Crowe stars as the controversial actor Anthony, who is unexpectedly cast in the lead role after a tragic incident during the filming of a horror movie. However, the filming of the movie does not go according to plan, encountering unexpected complications, plus Anthony begins to exhibit strange behaviour. Anthony’s daughter tries to understand whether her father has succumbed to his addictions again, or whether the problem lies in the film itself, and whether something far more sinister is going on during the making of the film….

8. Fly Me to The Moon

A relentless New York marketer and idealistic flight engineer. Both are working on the spectacular Apollo 11 space project and, as it happens, they don’t like each other very much. Dealing with the problems associated with going to the moon and back and spending more and more time together, it becomes clear that they have more feelings for each other than they were initially willing to admit. However, the US government has doubts about the space mission, so Kelly is ordered to stage a fake landing. Will Kelly keep this from Cole? And will it affect their relationship?

9. Kavej

In July we are also waiting for the premiere of a Slovak film. Two easterners, Klára and Veronika, live their ordinary lives in the hustle and bustle of Bratislava. But unexpectedly they have to return home to the east of Slovakia. And a series of pleasant misunderstandings, incredible twists and unexpected situations can begin…

10. Priscilla

One of the greatest love stories of the 20th century, the love story of Elvis and Priscilla comes to life on the big screen. But was it really an eternal romantic love? Was it just a life of parties or was it also a life of arguments and manipulation? The love story of one of the 20th century’s biggest rock ‘n’ roll stars and his wife Priscilla, ten years his junior, is brought to cinemas by Oscar winner Sofia Coppola. Together with her, we look back to the beginning of their relationship, to 1959, when fourteen-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu met Elvis Persley, ten years her senior, on a military base.

11. Cats in the museum

To conclude our July tips, we bring something for the kids. The story of Vincent the young cat and Maurice the mouse, who go to the world-famous Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. There they meet an elite cat squad that has been protecting art treasures from mice and other pests for many years. And that’s a problem, because Maurice really likes to feast on paintings. What’s more, one of the most famous paintings, the Mona Lisa, is brought to the Hermitage and all the mice want to feast on it. However, the painting is stolen, so Vincent and his friends go in search of this work of art.
