The Christmas tree is already standing on the Main Square and during these days the preparations and construction of the first Christmas stands have started. From 24 November and this time until 31 December, Bratislava citizens, as well as visitors, can look forward to a varied offer of Christmas specialties, traditional Slovak and international cuisine, gifts, as well as a rich cultural programme from 10:00 to 22:00.
In addition to traditional Christmas dishes, this year’s Christmas Market will also offer exotic dishes such as bao or gyoza, and vegans will also find something to their liking.
There will also be a new area for families, seniors, vulnerable groups and anyone who needs a break.
The concept of the markets will follow on from previous years when the city introduced several innovations such as the possibility of cashless payment by card, the consistent sorting of waste and the introduction of returnable cups and compostable utensils.
Bratislava Christmas will also include a Christmas programme on Franciscan Square.
On Fridays, BKIS invites you to readings of local works for adults and concerts by young bands.
Saturdays will feature readings for children and performances by female artists with bands.
Sundays will be full of music – performances by elementary art schools and well-known Slovak musical names. The readings and one of the concerts will be interpreted into Slovak sign language.
BKIS is also planning a programme in Klariska.
Not only Advent concerts will take place there, but also swaps of clothes or children’s toys, a Christmas children’s exchange, creative workshops and a silent disco.
A special programme is also prepared for St. Nicholas’ Day (5.12.) or St. Lucia’s Day (13.12.), when BKIS is preparing a magical Night of the Ladybirds.
