A powerful intimate story with elements of ballad and folklore, but with a good dose of irony and skilful social criticism. The story is set in a Hungarian village during four seasons. Irena and Attila have been trying to start a family for a really long time. However, they learn that due to complications during a routine surgery, they have lost any possibility of conceiving children of their own. They decide to resolve the situation by adoption, but because of the two-year waiting period, they end up adopting two teenage girls. Rose, whom everyone nicknames Dirt, and her friend Anita, who they claim made a blood pact together. The village environment is initially hostile to the two inmates. With the new parents, the love between them is not exactly equally shared either. What can the lack of it all lead to? The tendency towards extremism, nationalism and intolerance begins to seem trivial compared to the gradually surfacing tragedies of the characters. But can there ever be anything really banal about all this?
