Oumuamua

White Night 2024 x David Kollar and Quasars Ensemble – Oumuamua. The international art project White Night 2024 has included David Kollar’s latest original work Oumuamua in its music programme section.

The composition combines the ethereal sounds of ambient music with the sophistication of modern classical music. Inspired by a mysterious celestial body named Oumuamua that traversed the galaxy – leaving scientists wondering if it was a probe from another world or a cosmic message – Kollar has created a sound work that transcends time and space. David Kollar will perform on acoustic baritone guitar and laptop accompanied by the Quasars Ensemble string section, all under the direction of composer and conductor Ivan Buffa.

David Kollar is a Slovak experimental guitarist and composer. His completely unique approach to the guitar as an instrument and contemporary improvisational/compositional idioms are fascinating and totally innovative. Kollar has released ten extensive albums, a book, scored 18 films and worked on numerous multimedia projects. He has a long list of albums and collaborations with many artists including Eivind Aarset, Erik Truffaz, Steven Wilson, Pat Mastelotto and many others.

Ivan Buffa is a Slovak composer, conductor and pianist. He studied piano and composition in Bratislava and at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Michael Jarrell. Ivan Buffa has been the artistic director of the Quasars Ensemble since its foundation in 2008.

In addition to contemporary classical music, the Quasars Ensemble is equally devoted to the music of earlier eras and has gained international respect for its boldly constructed dramaturgical concepts. The ensemble collaborates with world-class composers and performers and is a regular guest at major international festivals. The ensemble is a laureate of the 2013 Crystal Wing award in the music category and has recorded 13 CD titles on several music labels.
