The Army Museum Žižkov in Prague is located in the historic buildings of the Memorial of Liberation, which were first opened to the public in 1932.

After a comprehensive renovation, carried out between 2018 and 2022, the museum reopened with new exhibitions and is now one of the most modern military museums in Europe.

The museum boasts an exhibition area of 5,000 m², featuring more than 7,000 artifacts. The exhibitions are divided into three main sections, covering the most important periods of Czechoslovakia’s military history.

Museum Exhibitions

World War I (1914–1918) – This section explores the participation of Czechs and Slovaks in World War I, as well as the political and military events leading to the creation of an independent Czechoslovak state in 1918. Visitors can see authentic weapons, military equipment, and objects from this crucial period.

The Interwar Period (1918–1938) – The second section is dedicated to the Czechoslovak Republic during the interwar period and its armed forces. It showcases unique uniforms, banners, and decorations reflecting the life of the Czechoslovak army during this time.

World War II (1939–1945) – The third section covers the participation of Czechs and Slovaks in World War II, both in military operations and in the domestic resistance as well as foreign missions. In addition to military technology, visitors will find personal mementos of Czechoslovak presidents and leading military figures.

In addition to weapons and military technology, the museum features unique period uniforms, banners, orders, and decorations. Among the most interesting exhibits are personal belongings of important Czechoslovak figures, offering insight into their roles in history.

The Army Museum Žižkov is not just a traditional exhibition space. Modern technology plays a significant role, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in history in an interactive way. The exhibitions are complemented by audiovisual tools that provide a unique informational and emotional experience.

Café Kupka with a view of Prague

After visiting the museum, guests can head to the unique Café Kupka, located on the top floor of one of the museum’s buildings. The café offers not only a pleasant atmosphere but also stunning views of Prague Castle and the historic center of Prague.

The Army Museum Žižkov is a must-see for any history enthusiast. Its exhibitions not only highlight the military history of the Czechoslovak state but also the determination and heroism of those who fought for its freedom.
