Ondrej Malachovský tribute SND

The opening gala concert of the season – opera stars will pay tribute to the legendary Slovak opera singer Ondrej Malachovsky on 7 September 2024 at 19:00 at the Slovak National Theatre.

Ondrej Malachovský was an important Slovak operatic baritone. He gained recognition for his performances in various opera productions and was involved in national and international projects.

Malachovský is known for his strong vocal abilities and dramatic interpretation, which have contributed to his reputation in the opera community. His exceptional vocal potential, strong acting skills and charismatic appearance have predestined him to become one of the most prominent figures in Slovak opera interpretation.

During his career he sang all the bass lead roles: Don Basilio (Barbier of Seville), Sarastro (The Magic Flute), Comtur (Don Giovanni), Kecal (The Bartered Bride), Konchak (Prince Igor), Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Rocco (Fidelio), Mephisto (Faust and Margaret), Boris Godunov, the Verdian roles of Ferrando from Il Trovatore, Tom from The Masquerade Ball, Guardiano from The Power of Fate, Sparafucile from Rigoletto, Philip II. from Don Carlos, Jacopo Fiesco from Simon Baccanegra, Zachariah from Nabucco, premiere roles in the operas of Cikker and many others (over 80 characters).

He also embodied the character of Svätopluk in Eugen Suchoň’s opera of the same name, which became one of his most important artistic performance in his life.

Ondrej Malachovský was a soloist of the Slovak National Theatre Opera from 1959 to 1999.
