Bratislava Cultural Summer

Experience with us the final events of the Bratislava Cultural Summer, performances of two exceptional art ensembles, namely the performance of Lúčnice at the Fountain on Saturday 31 August 2024 at 15:00 and the Open-air concert of the Slovak Philharmonic on Sunday 1 September 2024 at 17:00.

In the first part of the event from 15.00 to 18.30 you can look forward to a series of dance performances of ten Bratislava children’s folklore ensembles associated with the presentation of their activities as extracurricular artistic activities – DFS Prvosienka, DFS Magdalénka, DFS Klnka, DFS Gerulata, DFS Vienok, FS Poleno, FS Dolina, DFS Kremienok, DFS Čunovský kŕdeľ, DFS Čečinka, DFS Lúčka.

After the children’s programme at 19.30, the event will culminate with a spectacular performance by the Lúčnica Ensemble, which has been delighting audiences around the world with its performances for 75 years.

After last year’s extremely successful concert of the Slovak Philharmonic, which was enjoyed by thousands of visitors, this year’s Bratislava Cultural Summer will be closed by the Slovak Philharmonic with its performance at the fountain on the Square of Freedom.

The open-air concert of the Slovak Philharmonic under the baton of chief conductor Daniel Raiskin will once again bring a taste of what you can experience throughout the year in the concert hall of the Reduta. All regular visitors are equally welcome, as well as those who have not yet dared to come to the concert. Works by Slovak and international composers will be performed, and there will also be popular film music.

PLEIN AIR WITH “LADON”

Plein air is painting, drawing directly in the wild according to reality. Along with drawing sculptures, small architecture, trees and the immediate surroundings, children can try out land art, various art exercises such as shadow play and action art. Designed for children aged 5 – 11 years. Organiser of the event SZUŠ – LADON Art Studio, Nevädzová 4, Bratislava.

THE CEMETERY AT THE GOAT GATE – AN ABANDONED WITNESS OF OUR HISTORY

During the hot summer days, we will go exploring the history of our city protected by the treetops. The cemetery by the Goat Gate is one of the oldest in the city and hides the fates and stories of many famous Bratislava families. Their legacies can still be found in the streets of our city today. We will recall forgotten names, show exceptional stone-sculpture works, explain the symbolism of tombstones and tell the story of the cemetery itself. Accompanied by Andrea Turanská. Admission 2 €. During the Cultural Summer, four children’s theatre performances will take place in the courtyard of Zichy Palace. Universe is an interactive author’s production, which with its fresh form and music played live provides children with knowledge and interesting facts about the universe, people in the universe, but also about “What came before? The chicken or the egg?” For children aged 5 and up. Performed by SpozaVoza Theatre. Free admission

CHILDREN’S THEATRE PERFORMANCES: Salt over Gold

During the Cultural Summer, four children’s theatre performances will take place in the courtyard of Zichy Palace. Where there was enough salt, it was good to live. That’s how it is – salt gives taste to food and food gives taste to life. So why did the King forbid people to eat salt? How did he and the servant want to deal with the situation? And what did his daughter Marushka do to save the kingdom?
A story of a father’s wickedness, a servant’s insolence, a daughter’s love, and salt, whose crystals look so ordinary but actually give more to life than gold.
Inspired by a fairy tale by Pavel Dobšinský. A drama-puppet production

MODUS VIVENDI: Gitarrissima

This multicultural five-guitar ensemble always thrills the audience. In addition to arrangements of well-known stage and orchestral works from the classical music fund, the repertoire includes jazz and pop pieces as well as music from exotic ethnic groups. The captivating story of an oak tree based on the fairy tale by H. Ch. A story about the story of an oak tree with a story about the story of an oak tree by Andersen. This interactive performance with an environmental theme is designed for children, who can “play” with the actors or even influence the conclusion of the fairy tale about saving trees and their fate. OPENING CONCERT OF THE WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL BRATISLAVA 2024

On the stage in the Gazebo, groups will perform in the programme World music is a colourful world of music. After the Slovak group Folk&Bass Orchestra together with Ženami z Muzičky, which will show how it is possible to combine folk songs with dance electronics, the world-famous DHOAD Gypsies from Rajasthan will perform burning with colours. The musicians and dancers will bring to life the world of maharajas and poetry celebrations in Indian palaces. After them, the famous brass band Jambo Agusevi Orchestra will bring in the Balkan temperament. In cooperation with World Music Festival Bratislava. The performers delve into the depths of the imagination in their joint creation, where they confront their fears, anxieties, exhaustion, and the hidden memories of body and soul. They listened and learned to understand the essence of their being, they got to know what is their spring, flower, meadow, they also entered the dark forest and together they created a fantasy magical landscape. The starting point for the artists was the unconventional process of reliving their own experience through catathemic imaginative psychotherapy.
