Knights at Devín

The popular event Knights on Devín returns to Bratislava, this time you can also admire knightly duels and past times on Devín.

On Saturday, September 5, we will wrap up the 2026 knightly events at Devín. We’ll bid farewell to the season at the castle above the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers with a rich program in grand style!

Treat yourself to an extraordinary experience at Devín Castle in the company of various historical figures and characters, beautiful ladies, and brave knights.

Program:

10:00 a.m. – Opening of the gates of Devín Castle

11:00 a.m. – Opening ceremony

12:00 p.m. – Performance: Richard the Lionheart

A fencing and theatrical tribute dedicated to this important figure of the Middle Ages and the events leading up to his capture in Austria.

1:00 p.m. – Renaissance Dances

Set at a ball, this story reveals many human traits as well as the beauty of courtly Renaissance dance. What are noble ladies willing to do to win the attention of an important gentleman? Almost anything.

2:00 p.m. – Knight Gaston’s Puppet Theater

3:00 p.m. – Renaissance Knightly Tournament

A knightly tournament modeled after the Italian “La giostra” tournaments. Four knights on their steeds compete for the audience’s favor in tests of skill and daring clashes in the jousting arena. Equestrian performances alternate with dancing, pikemen drills, and fencing duels.

4:30 p.m. – Period Music Recital

Historical and historicizing music for listening and dancing, performed by musicians from TOSTABUR. Many of the songs are original compositions by our members.

5:30 p.m. – Closing Ceremony

Full of fencing duels, dancing, and waving flags

6:00 p.m. – End of the event and closing of the castle

Accompanying events:

🏹 archery range with bows, crossbows, and knife throwing
🐴 rides on a live horse and a wooden horse
🏐 a kids’ corner with various games (catapult, stilts, ring toss at a unicorn, ring toss at swords, ball toss at a dragon)
🥨 craft and merchandise stalls, food stand

🏰 After purchasing a ticket, in addition to the performances, you can also explore the entire castle grounds with all its beautiful nooks and crannies and interesting exhibits.
