In the very heart of Prague, just a few steps from the bustle of Malá Strana, lies a place where time seems to stand still: Vojanovy Sady.
Considered the oldest partially preserved garden in Prague, it offers a unique combination of history, nature, and tranquility that you might not expect in the center of a busy metropolis.
Originally created as a monastic garden, it still retains its intimate and enclosed character. High walls and surrounding buildings shield the gardens from city noise, so the moment you enter, you’re greeted by a sense of peace and privacy. This very atmosphere makes Vojanovy Sady a beloved spot for relaxation, reading, meditation, or slow, quiet walks.
The garden hides several architectural and natural curiosities. You’ll find here the Chapel of St. Elijah, built in the style of a grotto with wall paintings, the small Chapel of St. Teresa, a peaceful rose terrace with 17th-century sundials, and also a small pond that adds to the romantic charm of the space. There is also a greenhouse and a children’s playground.
Vojanovy Sady are at their most beautiful in late spring—magnolias, rhododendrons, and blossoming fruit trees transform the garden into a colorful scene full of fragrance. Throughout the year, you can also encounter one of the garden’s biggest attractions: the peacocks that roam freely around the grounds and give the place its unique magic.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet break, a romantic stroll, or a lesser-known Prague gem, Vojanovy Sady are an ideal choice. They offer harmony, history, and nature in one of the most picturesque districts of Prague.
