Children’s Island in Prague’s Smíchov district is one of the most pleasant and best-equipped places for families with children in the city.
Located between Jiráskův Bridge and the Bridge of Legions, it offers a true paradise for all ages – from toddlers and teenagers to adults who enjoy sports like football, basketball, or footvolley.
The playgrounds are divided by age group – from play elements for two-year-olds to climbing frames and rope sets for school-aged children. The youngest visitors can enjoy the “Vodník” water feature, drinking fountains, and safe play areas, while older kids can use the modern sports fields – including an artificial turf football pitch, basketball hoops, tartan volleyball and footvolley court, pétanque area, and a small skate ramp.
Special attention has also been given to barrier-free play structures, allowing children with disabilities to play and train their motor skills. The space feels friendly, inclusive, and open to everyone.
Children’s Island has a rich history – it was once a popular destination for Prague residents, but after the 2013 floods, it remained closed and overgrown for several years. It wasn’t until its renovation in 2018 that it reopened to the public, and today it stands once again as one of the largest and most visited free-access playgrounds in Prague.
You can easily reach the island from Janáčkovo nábřeží, via the Předpolí dětského ostrova park, between Kořenského Street and Pavla Švandy ze Semčic Street. The nearest tram or bus stop is Arbesovo náměstí, or alternatively náměstí Kinských.
The island is open daily from morning until 10:00 PM, and entry is free, though dogs are not allowed. A security guard ensures order, so parents can relax and enjoy time with their children by the river.
Children’s Island is the perfect spot where everyone finds something for themselves – kids find adventure, parents relaxation, and athletes fun.
