Sophienalpe

25.03.2023

Social Hike XL Sophienalpe. Technically still part of Vienna, the Sophienalpe (477m) is an almost surreal mountain scenery fit for Heidi or the Trapp’s. It was named after archduchess Sophie, mother of emperor Franz Joseph, who spent many summers up there. After meeting up at Vienna Main Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof), a train and bus will take us to the start of our hiking route. First we walk up a steep-ish forest trail until reaching Mostalm plateau. From here we continue our route, passing the Karl-Franz-Fernsicht with stunning views until arriving at the actual Sophienalpe. Following a former cable car track, we descend to the Rieglerhütte and further down along Halterbach creek to the Spitalswiese. A hidden forest road hugging Kolbeterberg will take us back to the bus stop for our return trip to Vienna Main Station.

Underway we’ll have fun with ice breakers, discussion prompts and local trivia.
