Matej Galovič is an emerging painter living and working in Bernolákov. His work focuses on natural and mainly urban landscape painting. In his oil paintings he tries to capture the atmosphere and mood of a particular place. The details are rather hinted and his paintings are in the impressionistic artistic direction.
The paintings in the author’s exhibition Urban Impressions capture the well-known landmarks of Bratislava and its surroundings, as well as lesser-known scenery that we pass and see on our way to our duties on a daily basis. When viewed from a distance, it is possible to perceive the solid composition, the precise proportions of the painted object and the clear recognizability of the subject. This degree of realism disappears as one gets closer to the painting, and the viewer is able to immerse themselves in the abstract strokes, traces, smudges and blotches. The paintings give the viewer room to interpret what is implied and to their own imagination, whether visual or sensual. With harmonious colouring, the artist wants to express the beauty of the fleeting moment of everyday life.
The author’s exhibition of Matej Galovič’s paintings “Urban Impressions” in the Manor House in Modra is open to the public from 3 March to 27 March 2023, during visiting hours – from Monday and Thursday from 9:00 to 15:30 and on Fridays from 9:00 to 12:30.
