This October, the Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden will once again be filled with the irresistible aroma of chimney cakes at the 12th Chimney Cake Festival! Alongside the classic flavors, visitors can enjoy new creations, charity initiatives, and even a special guest from Székely Land. Children’s shows, craft workshops, and concerts make this the sweetest family festival of the year.

Budapest’s tallest challenge returns: runners will race up to the 29th floor of MOL Campus, each at their own pace. Professional athletes, celebrities, and amateurs compete side by side, with every step supporting a good cause. TikToker Áron Parti and Bia Bréda add to the fun, and the day concludes with an award ceremony.

A true celebration for book lovers: the 30th International Book Festival will take place this October at the Bálna Honvédelmi Központ. Romania is the guest country, Janne Teller the guest writer, and many international authors – including several from France – will attend. Book signings, readings, talks, and debates make this four-day literary feast unforgettable.

The world’s most powerful press photography arrives in Budapest: the World Press Photo 2025 exhibition at the Biodome showcases the defining stories of the past year. Selected from over 59,000 entries, these striking and inspiring images from across the globe are more than pictures – they are stories that matter.

In October, the Hegyvidék Shopping Center will be overrun with short-legged, cheerful pups at Budapest’s first Corgi Meetup! Fun competitions, beauty contests, photo booths, and expert talks await dog lovers, while a celebrity jury chooses the cutest four-legged star. The city’s most adorable autumn event is not to be missed.

For one day only, Serbia’s cultural treasures take over the Museum Garden at the PONT Festival on October 11. Free programs include gusle music, kolo dancing, family workshops, craft corners, and live evening concerts. Tradition and modern entertainment blend in a way that speaks to all ages.

On October 18, the elegant Marble Hall of Széchenyi Bath transforms into a design and craft wonderland: the Secret Market brings together dozens of Hungarian and international creators. Discover unique jewelry, ceramics, home decor, and limited-edition prints, and meet the artists behind the works. A day where shopping turns into inspiration.

The Memento Park’s Retro Day is a true time-travel experience: beyond the statues, visitors step into the atmosphere of a bygone era. Trabants puff smoke, vinyl records spin, children test their knowledge of “grandma’s childhood,” and after dark, torchlit tours bring the monumental statues to life. A day when the past returns to engage all the senses.

Budapest Design Week (October 8–19) reveals the creativity behind everyday objects, turning the city into an inspiring playground. With the theme “Fluid Boundaries,” the festival features more than 170 events from exhibitions to workshops and city walks. Beyond Budapest, nine other cities join the program, showcasing world-class design alongside emerging talents.

This autumn, Budapest echoes with clinking beer mugs and Bavarian tunes at the 11th Oktoberfest Budapest. From Erzsébet Square to Margaret Island and Buda Castle, pretzels, sausages, live music, and original Paulaner beer recreate the Munich atmosphere. Free entry at all venues, plus thousands of souvenir mugs and hats for visitors.
