Beer lovers can once again experience the best of Munich’s traditions this autumn in the heart of Budapest. The 11th Oktoberfest Budapest fills the city’s most beautiful spots with the scent of pretzels, the sound of Bavarian tunes, and refreshing Paulaner steins. What makes the festival even more special is that admission is free, with thousands of souvenir gifts handed out to visitors.
The story of Oktoberfest dates back to 1810, when Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese celebrated their wedding with the entire city of Munich. Over time, the celebration grew into the world’s largest beer festival, attracting millions each year. For the past 11 years, Budapest has offered its own version for those who cannot travel to Munich. Each year, the organizers strive to recreate the authentic Oktoberfest atmosphere while adding a unique Budapest flair – blending gastronomy, culture, and shared experiences.
Carefully chosen venues provide the perfect setting: the buzz of Erzsébet Square, the shady walkways of Margaret Island, and the panoramic views from Buda Castle all add their own charm. The grand finale at Normafa brings a cozy Alpine twist, with a hut party to close the festivities. Visitors can expect Bavarian sausages, pretzels, traditional bands, and the iconic festival essentials – Dirndl, Lederhosen, and of course, plenty of beer.
The event is free at all locations, and while supplies last, more than 8,000 original Paulaner Oktoberfest beer mugs and festival hats will be given away to guests.
