City walk with a bike

On 11 May, the Budapest Transport Centre is inviting visitors to an extraordinary urban walk, focusing on the experience of cycling and the transformation of Budapest’s urban spaces.

The event is organised to mark Transport Culture Day and to give participants a new perspective on the city: not only to get around, but also to understand how our public spaces and routes are being transformed and the direction in which the capital is moving towards sustainable transport. Starting from Vigadó Square, the tour is not only an experience but also a learning experience, revealing a Budapest that few people know about but that we pass through every day.

During the programme, participants will hop on a bike and ride along urban routes where significant progress has been made in cycling in recent years, discussing how the transport culture has changed, what developments have made the city centre more liveable and how the city of the future can be greener, friendlier and more accessible. The tour will be led by experts who will give practical examples of how transport is organised, while at the same time giving a new perspective on the sights and sounds of Budapest.

The walk can also be done on your own bike or with a MOL Bubi bike, which the organisers will provide unlimited access to for the duration of the programme. So even those who do not have their own bike can join in. The programme is highly recommended for those interested in urban development, sustainable transport and the transformation of public spaces, or who just want to explore Budapest in an unusual and active way.
