On the last Saturday of August, the Bartók Quarter will once again come alive with a full day of celebration centered around community, music, and creative exchange. This year’s edition of Bartók Feszt’ revolves around the themes of collectivity and sharing—because, according to the organizers, a true city is built together. The event is not only about entertainment; it invites residents and visitors alike to reflect on how to strengthen a living, breathing urban community through knowledge, attention, time, and openness toward one another.
The festival offers programs for music lovers, families, active city dwellers, and the creative hands behind everyday craftsmanship. Live concerts will fill the Zsiga Stage from the afternoon into the evening, with performances by Kati Kovács, the youthful and fresh-sounding Cserihanna, as well as Bongor, Kolibri, and the dynamic, multilingual Bohemian Betyars. In the morning, the Dezső Stage becomes a space for families and children, with appearances by Eszter Bíró, the Rutkai Bori Banda, and Danny mesél, setting the tone for a cheerful start to the day.
Beyond the musical lineup, a central role is played by the Civil Quarter, once again located in the garden of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). Here, various community initiatives come together to showcase how urban living can be transformed from the ground up. Participants will meet organizations such as Humusz Szövetség, Repair Cafe, WWF, CoHousing Budapest, the Bartók Boulevard Association, KÉK, MiUtcánk, and many others. Interactive workshops, tool repairs, meaningful conversations, and face-to-face connections all contribute to the vision of a greener and more connected Budapest.
The entire festival is an attempt to rekindle a spirit that once came naturally: exchanging skills, doing favors, fixing things together, and seeing neighbors as more than acquaintances—as valuable resources. This mindset has been consciously cultivated in the Bartók Quarter in recent years, and Bartók Feszt’ serves as a celebration of that effort: a shared, cooperative urban life.
The flea market, open workshops, group crochet sessions, flag-making activities, and children’s programs all reinforce this message. Those who take part won’t just be spectators—they become active members of a large, welcoming community where everyone has something to contribute.
