Exhibition and cinema at the castle

A unique experience awaits you at Bratislava Castle. Visit the Marie Antoinette exhibition and enjoy a screening of Jeanne du Barry – The King’s Mistress in the last room of the castle.

The organizers of the exhibition Marie Antoinette from Vienna to Versailles to the Guillotine, in cooperation with Film Europe, bring you a combined museum and film experience right at Bratislava Castle.

Your ticket will allow you to enter the exhibition and the world of Marie Antoinette, and then at 4:00 p.m. you can also attend the screening of the film Jeanne du Barry – The King’s Mistress in the last room of the exhibition at Bratislava Castle.

We therefore recommend that you arrive at the exhibition 45 to 60 minutes before the start of the film (around 3:00 p.m.) so that you can see the entire exhibition before the film begins.

Note: The film will be screened in French with Czech subtitles. The film is rated 15+. The exhibition and access to the screening room are barrier-free (1, 4, and 2 steps).

Marie Antoinette from Vienna to Versailles to the guillotine

The splendor and grandeur of Versailles has come to the magnificent Knights’ Hall of Bratislava Castle. You can see costumes, wigs, paintings, furniture, and other art objects on loan from the Palace of Versailles, supplemented by items from Slovak museum collections. Together, they will give you an insight into the life of this famous queen, from her childhood at the imperial palace of Schönbrunn, through the luxurious life of the French monarch at Versailles, to her death on the scaffold.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Château de Versailles Spectacles, SNM – Historical Museum, and Beart production s.r.o.

The film tells the story of Jeanne Bécu, who was born in 1743 as the illegitimate daughter of a poor seamstress, but eventually became the last mistress of Louis XV.

Jeanne, a young girl from a poor background with a love of culture and other joys of life, gradually climbs the social ladder thanks to her intelligence and charm. As a courtesan, she becomes the favorite of King Louis XV. (Johnny Depp), who is unaware of her status but regains his zest for life thanks to her. A passionate love affair breaks out between them. Jeanne (Maïwenn) defies all conventions and moral norms and moves to Versailles, where her arrival causes a scandalous stir at court…
