We have some interesting facts about beading for you.
1. An ancient craft
Evidence of the use of beads for decoration has been found on the remains of early humans in Africa, Europe and the Americas. Some of the oldest beads, made from materials such as shells and bones, date back 10,000 years before Christ.
2. Global tradition
Beading has been practised by many cultures. For example, Native American tribes have a rich history of beading, creating intricate designs using glass beads. Similarly, beadwork is an important part of African, Asian and European artistic traditions.
3. Symbolism
In many cultures, beads have symbolic meaning. For example, in some Native American cultures, different colors of beads can represent specific things such as life, strength, and spirituality. In Africa, beads often symbolize social status, tribal identity, and even personal achievement.
4. Beads as currency
In some regions of the world, beads were once used as a form of currency or trade. Glass beads were particularly valuable in parts of Africa, where they were exchanged for goods, land and even people.

Beads are made from a wide variety of materials including glass, wood, bone, shell, clay, metal and even plastic. In the past, beads were made from more organic materials such as seeds, animal teeth or gemstones.
