Unique lines, an iconic look that is instantly recognizable. Emotions, the desire for freedom, riding with the wind in your hair, that’s all Vespa. And you can see all its forms at the Vespa – Legendary Scooter Made in Italy exhibition at Bratislava Castle from March 13 to May 11, 2025.
It is characterized by attributes that make it a work of art. The most popular Italian scooter in the world has won numerous awards since its launch at the Turin Engineering Fair in March 1946, and its iconic models are in the sights of design collectors, galleries and museums.
Let’s start with an elite institution, the Vespa GS 150, designed by engineer Corradino D’Ascanio in 1955, has pride of place in MoMA’s temple of modern art in New York. It holds the same position at the Milan Triennale of Design and Architecture, where several special pieces from private collections have been exhibited. The Vespa is a grateful exhibit of the world’s design museums, art galleries and auction houses, which are able to auction historic pieces for considerable sums. Vespa, one of the symbols of the exclusive Made in Italy label, has been a success for almost 80 years.
The first Slovak exhibition of the legendary Vespa brand will take place at Bratislava Castle. Visitors will see a number of period scooters, including one of the first models from 1946, original patent designs and advertising posters.
Most of the exhibits come from the private museum of Marco Fumagalli in Seregno. His collection includes more than two hundred models from different periods and rare documents such as a sketch of the first model by D’Ascanio or an extensive collection of commemorative plaques from scooterist meetings in Italy and other countries around the world. There are also advertising materials and period toys.
On this occasion, Vespa Klub Slovakia and Vespa Košice will lend several contemporary models made in the 21st century, including the Vespa Primavera Touring, with which its owner travelled through many European countries and reached Morocco.
Rino Drogo is the former director of the Motor Show in Bologna, an expert in automotive communication, with which he is associated by his almost twenty years of work at Gruppo Fiat.
The exhibition at the Bratislava Castle will open in advance the 18th edition of the Italian Festival in Slovakia “Dolce Vitaj” and is under the auspices of the Mayor of the Capital City of Slovakia, Matus Vallo.
