The Magic Flute

Opera in two acts performed in German. The mythical world of a mysterious fairy tale. In Mozart’s The Magic Flute we find a strange story evoking, to some extent, a typical classical fairy tale. Many circumstances suggest the ‘fairy-tale’ nature of this story: the existence of the wise old man Sarastro and the evil Queen of the Night, the pilgrimage of the brave Tamino in search of the lost princess Pamina, the apparitions of the three mysterious ladies, but also the presence of a typically fairy-tale creature, the bird Papageno, who becomes Tamino’s companion. But the first impression may not be unambiguous. So how is it? Has Mozart led us into the strange world of The Magic Flute merely out of a kind of huncuttishness – or is there in fact nothing accidental here and, as some believe, ideas and signs that are difficult for us to understand are cunningly encoded in the illegible symbolism? But we can be captivated by Mozart’s phenomenal vision of a strange mythical world – and invited into a mysterious and somewhat strange tale that is most certainly suitable for adults.

The Bratislava Boys’ Choir under the direction of Magdalena Rovňáková will perform as well.
