Come celebrate St. Martin’s Day in the historic city centre. In addition to good wine, you can look forward to a varied musical programme, competitions, guided tours for the disadvantaged and a quiz on winemaking and good food.
Since the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, St. Martin’s Day has been associated with the wine tradition. Every year, on 11 November, the first wines of the year’s harvest are opened, not only in this country but also in the Czech Republic and Austria. According to an old tradition, the wine from the year’s harvest is blessed by a church dignitary. The young wines will be blessed on the first day of the festival by the Archbishop of Bratislava, Stanislav Zvolenský, in the Chapel of St George in the Primatial Palace.
