The Convergence 2024 / MOZART – MUSTONEN Festival will take place from 13 to 25 February 2024 at the Slovak National Gallery, the Kornel and Nada Földvári Library at the Slovak National Gallery and Kino Lumière.
“No play of notes is more playfully played than the music of Mozart. This is music that plays life. It sings and it dances, asks and answers, falls silent and again bursts into sound. It can be merry and sad, dark and bright, tragic and liberating; and how many more designations we could find! – synonyms for the sounding sensual expression of life,” wrote the German musicologist Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht. When he died at the age of 35, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had composed over 600 works, amounting to thousands of pages of music that has never ceased to sound.
The image of its creator is just as mutable and ungraspable as his play of notes: marvellous eternal child, frivolous freethinker, tragic unappreciated genius – each of these characterisations would seem to be true, yet at the same time decidedly a myth.
Konvergencie Chamber Music Festival will devote its ninth winter edition to the fascinating universe of Mozart’s chamber music. The festival will be held from the 22nd to the 25th of February 2024 in the inspiring newly renovated space of the Slovak National Gallery.
The principal guest will be the outstanding Finnish composer, conductor and pianist Olli Mustonen, whose works will be heard alongside Mozart’s.
Complementing the musical double portrait of Mozart-Mustonen, there will be other accompanying events: a screening of the director’s version of the Forman film Amadeus, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its premiere; readings about music with Robert Roth; Mozart’s singspiel Bastien and Bastienne as a concert for children; and the sonic adventures of Stroon and Pjoni. No play of notes is played more playfully than Mozart’s music at Konvergencie (Convergences).
