WARDRUNA (pagan folk , Norway). Norwegian event in Slovakia. Wardruna is a musical group founded by Einar Kvitrafn Selvik. Using the oldest Nordic instruments and poetic meters, as well as lyrics written in Norwegian and proto-Norwegian, Wardruna is finally ready to return after almost three years.
In 2009, Wardruna enchanted her listeners with her mesmerizing debut album “Gap var Ginnunga”, which was also the first part of a planned trilogy. In the following years, the band spent a lot of time adapting their music to a live format and starting a live band. This led to a handful of very special gigs, probably especially when they performed in front of the majestic 1100-year-old Gokstad ship at the Viking Ship Museum in Norway.
The ongoing “Runaljod” trilogy is a musical rendition of the 24 runes that are often referred to as the futhark of the elders. Some of the recordings are made outdoors in places or circumstances significant to each rune. Wardruna primarily uses ancient and historical instruments such as primitive deer frame drums, Kraviklyra, tagelharpe, mouth harp, goat horn, lur and others. Non-traditional instruments and other sound sources such as trees, rocks and water are also used.
All of these elements are carefully woven into a rich musical landscape and are complemented by whispering voices, melodic songs and powerful choruses. Although Wardruna’s music shares characteristics with music usually labeled as folk or ambient, none of these genres can truly describe their unique style. It truly needs to be experienced.
