1. SLASH Filmfestival

Towards the end of September, the spookily unique SLASH Filmfestival returns to Vienna, taking place at three different cinemas: Filmcasino, Metro Kinokulturhaus and Gartenbaukino. Combining film genres under the horror and fantasy categories, prepare for guts, gore, blood, and of course, gruesome and scary imagery played out on the screen — don’t say we didn’t warn you… Changing up each year, 2024’s overall running theme is “cosmic horror and folklore.” Local and international filmmakers premiere over 60 independent films, cult-classic revivals, documentaries, and more. Plus, each year special guests make an appearance. In past additions, Nicholas Cage was one! You can check out their programme online for more info, and the 11-day event runs from the 19-29 September.

The GinMarkt event is back once more at the beloved Ottakringer Brewery, running from Friday, 20 September to Saturday, 21 September 2024. There’s plenty of food to sustain your hungry bellies, including Streatfood Austria, Pinsalino (for Italian), I Eat Vienna and Pita Pitstop (for Greek). There’s also live DJs to amp up the good vibes! The festival will once more be taking place at the same place as its proverbial Vienna Rum Festival, i.e., the brewery!
