Calle Libre Vienna

This August, Vienna’s Meidling district once again transforms into a canvas for the city’s boldest celebration of creativity: the Calle Libre – Festival for Urban Aesthetics, taking place from August 16 to 23, 2025. Under this year’s theme “Youtopia”, the festival explores visions of the future, identity, and hope through the powerful lens of street art.

International and Austrian artists will create live murals, graffiti pieces, and large-scale installations, turning the streets into open-air galleries.

The festival offers a wide range of creative side events: guided street art tours, spray painting workshops, and participatory activities invite visitors to engage directly with the art form. Opening day on August 16 kicks off with a community-focused party featuring live painting, stand-up comedy, and music, celebrating the intersection of art and togetherness.

From August 18 to 22, large-scale murals are created daily between 9:00 and 19:00 across Meidling’s urban spaces. Artists include internationally renowned names such as Elian Chani (Argentina), Nut (China), Mohamed L’Ghacham (Spain), and Mariella Lehner (Austria) – bringing diverse styles and messages to Vienna’s city walls.

Workshops highlight a participatory spirit:
– Niña Lerch’s creative painting session (August 19)
– Rosa Hirzer’s urban art action on Korbergasse 4–6 (August 20)
– Lio Ebenstein’s “Come by and Try” workshop with Manuel Skirl & Jakob der Bruder (August 21) – centered around Meidlinger Markt.

The festival concludes on August 23 with an English-language street art tour in the afternoon, followed by the official closing party at Gleis//Garten: expect live art, DJs, and a vibrant summer night atmosphere with artists and visitors alike.
