Debaser presents Stockholm Roots – a three-day country and roots festival in the heart of Södermalm.

Whether you’re a dedicated country fan or just curious to experience some genuine southern charm, Stockholm Roots will offer an unforgettable weekend and an authentic oasis filled with music, dance and some of the most interesting acts in country, Americana, folk and rock.

On August 16-18, the Stockholm Roots festival moves into Debaser and presents a program carefully selected by Debaser and Porter & Thorell Syndrome that ranges from the most traditional to the more contemporary artists in the genre. First up on the program are Foy Vance, Bonnie Bishop and Phosphorescent who will soon be joined by more acts and more info about the festival.

Foy Vance – Saturday, August 17
Foy Vance is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter who releases music on Ed Sheeran’s Gingerbread Man Records. His songs have featured in numerous films and TV shows, and continue to move and seduce listeners around the world. His career began in 2007 with the album Hope, but it was with 2013’s Joy of Nothing that it really took off. Last year marked the 10th anniversary of the album, which was celebrated with the release of Joy of Nothing (Live From Belfast) which showcased Vance’s tremendous live qualities.

Bonnie Bishop – Saturday, August 17
Bonnie Bishop, an American Country-Americana singer who knows what it means to face the trials of life on the road. After 13 years of playing 200 shows a year, she was close to giving up for good. But by teaming up with one of Nashville’s hottest producers, Bonnie has created something new and extraordinary – a blue-eyed, heartbreaking soul that harks back to the best days of the “Memphis sound” in the 1950s and 60s. The “chicken-like” plucking virtuoso guitars meet a swirling Hammond organ and take us straight home to Bonnie Bishop’s new world, where we hope to stay forever.

Phosphorescent – Sunday, August 18
There has always been a calmness in Phosphorescent’s music. A kind of languid thoughtfulness that forced the listener to stop and think. Always sung with the creaking raggedness we have come to associate with Matthew Houcks. And it is precisely that voice, that unforgettable voice, that runs like a red thread through the discography, now 20 years long. Whether the productions have been quietly organic or filled with grand arrangements, it is there at the center with stories that can perhaps best be compared to feverish internal monologues. The meekness that characterizes the music has also come to characterize Phosphorescent’s release rate in recent years. After the big breakthrough with Muchacho in 2013, it took another five years before the follow-up C’est La Vie was released. But now, finally, the time has come for the sequel Revelator, which will be released in April. And if the already released title track is anything to go by, we have another fantastic album to look forward to.

Elliot Greer – Sunday, August 18
Scottish Elliot Greer delivers unfiltered truth with warm intonation, accompanied by acoustic guitar. He sticks to a classic troubadour tradition while his expression reaches out widely. As a result, he is in many ways a rare singer-songwriter, able to cut through the noise on social media, with millions of views and selling out recurring gigs on a weekly basis. During the pandemic, he made music on the streets of New York and appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon alongside Ashley McBryde and John Osborne. In 2022 he had his big break and has since released several singles.

Stockholm Roots is organized by Debaser in collaboration with Rootsy, Luger and Porter & Thorells Syndrom.
