From April 6 to 13, 2025, the eleventh edition of the Venus Days festival will take place in Prague 3, offering a diverse showcase of contemporary female authorial art.
Audiences can look forward not only to new works but also to productions that would otherwise not be available in Prague. The festival focuses on powerful themes, innovative theatrical forms, and socially engaged performances.
A regular guest of the festival, the Slovak theatre NUDE, will present the production VOICE, which combines opera singing, pop-drama, and dance, reflecting on the roles of female voices in society. The participatory performance Lesson with Jane from Brno will offer viewers the opportunity to actively engage, exercise, and meditate as tools for coping with the crises of the contemporary world.
One of the most anticipated productions will be Bodies in Progress_Extended, in which performers in an advanced stage of pregnancy engage in a dialogue with their transformation and newly emerging bodies. The project is by Martina Hajdyla Lacová, who received the Thalia Award for the original version of Bodies in Progress.
Audiences will not want to miss the original play Válovky by actress Ivana Uhlířová, recipient of the Alfréd Radok Award. The production portrays the lives and art of the Válová sisters, painters and opponents of the 1968 occupation. Another major star of the festival will be Zuzana Bydžovská, who will appear in the production At Noon by the Depressive Children ensemble.
The group WHAT ARE YOU STARING AT will present the performative installation Stepmother’s Day, which explores the phenomenon of patchwork families. The Nesladím se collective will then focus on the controversial topic of abortion in the Czech context in the performative lecture To All Mothers and Non-Mothers.
The festival will conclude on April 13 with the Ostrava production The Destruction of Total Thinking by the Na cucky theatre, which touches on the taboo subject of female alcoholism.
Venus Days 2025 once again brings extraordinary theatrical experiences, socially engaged performances, and the opportunity to reflect on important contemporary issues. If you want to experience theatre differently, this is a festival you definitely shouldn’t miss!
