The exhibition “BUTTERFLIES: The Art of Survival” will take place from April 2 to May 17, 2026 in the Fata Morgana greenhouse at the Prague Botanical Garden, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world of tropical butterflies.
Each year, the greenhouse transforms into a living tropical paradise, where hundreds of exotic butterflies fly freely among visitors. Their colorful wings, gentle movement through the air, and close interaction with these delicate creatures create an unforgettable atmosphere that delights both children and adults.
This year’s edition carries the subtitle “The Art of Survival” and focuses on the clever strategies butterflies use to protect themselves from predators and ensure the survival of their species. Visitors will learn how butterflies camouflage themselves, mimic their surroundings, or use bright colors as a warning. The exhibition also offers a fascinating look at the different stages of their life cycle – from tiny eggs to caterpillars and chrysalises, from which adult butterflies emerge.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is the emergence of butterflies from chrysalises, a truly remarkable moment to witness. Thanks to cooperation with a butterfly farm in Stratford-upon-Avon, more than 5,500 chrysalises of dozens of species from around the world will arrive in Prague, ensuring a constantly changing display.
The event also includes an accompanying interactive exhibition “Secrets of Butterfly Life”, located in the Exhibition Hall in the Ornamental Garden. It introduces species found in the Czech countryside and expands the main exhibition with additional insights and context, including the importance of nature conservation.
The exhibition combines visual beauty with education, making it an ideal program for families with children, nature lovers, and anyone looking for a peaceful and inspiring place in springtime Prague.
