New Year’s Prašná Gate

The event program is designed to delight both history lovers and families with children. The entry fee is symbolic – a guided tour costs just 55 CZK, while children under 15 years old can enter for free. The event also features a quiz, where you can test your knowledge about the Powder Gate and the Royal Route. After successfully completing the quiz, you’ll receive a beautiful illustrated map of the Royal Route as a reward.

The Powder Gate, built in 1475, is one of the most important late Gothic landmarks in Prague. It serves as a symbolic entrance to the Royal Route leading to Prague Castle and connects the Old Town with the New Town. From the tower’s gallery, located 44 meters above the ground, visitors can enjoy a unique view of the heart of Prague. Every year, tens of thousands of local and international tourists visit this historic landmark – in 2024, nearly 70,000 people toured it.

In the fall of 2024, the Powder Gate underwent the first phase of revitalization, during which it was cleaned, treated, and its condition was carefully mapped. Thanks to these improvements, the gate now shines in all its glory and is ready to become a worthy venue for celebrating its 550th anniversary.

The Powder Gate will be open on January 1, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, not only for history enthusiasts but also for families with children and tourists who want to experience something extraordinary.
