If you are interested in current trends in performing arts management and care about its future, don’t miss this year’s Performing Arts Management Symposium (PAMS), taking place on December 5–6, 2024, at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU) in Prague.
This well-established symposium has been bringing expert topics in the arts for several years, focusing on innovation, development, and inspiration for future generations of theater professionals.
This year’s edition, titled INNOVARTS: Navigating the Future of Arts Management, will focus on key themes related to the development of theater and arts management, emphasizing the enhancement of competencies for a new generation of artists and professionals. The symposium will include not only theoretical discussions but also practical workshops addressing specific challenges and opportunities in this field. This year’s theme highlights how Czech theater can draw inspiration from European trends, with a particular focus on German-speaking countries, and explores the new opportunities for innovation and development the future may bring.
The organizing team has prepared three thematic blocks featuring distinguished guests from the field of theater and arts management. Symposium attendees can look forward to presentations by experts from the Czech Republic and abroad, who will discuss various aspects of arts and theater management.
The first block focuses on the importance of developing industry programs in the Czech theater scene. While these programs are already a common part of cultural life abroad, they are still rare in the Czech Republic. This block will explore what this initiative can bring and the opportunities it offers for the development of the theater sector.
The second block will showcase the international project Ophelia’s Got Talent from Berlin’s Volksbühne, a German-Austrian-Dutch-Swiss co-production. The main themes will include the benefits of co-productions for Czech theaters and how to get involved in them.
The third block will address how artificial intelligence can influence and transform artistic practices. The discussion will explore how AI can be utilized in theater practice and the new possibilities it offers for creative processes in the arts.
The symposium will welcome a number of prominent guests, including experts from German theaters Volksbühne and Schaubühne, Martina Pecková, Zuzana Husárová, and Hugo Rosák. Additional guests participating in panel discussions and workshops will be announced later.
The symposium will take place on December 5–6, 2024, organized by the Department of Production at DAMU, in cooperation with the Prague German Language Theatre Festival and Atrium Žižkov. The event is free and open to professionals, students, and the general public interested in current topics in arts and arts management. It is supported by the Czech-German Fund for the Future.
This symposium is a unique opportunity to deepen knowledge in theater management, exchange experiences with experts, and discuss the future of theater and arts in Europe. Come to get inspired and share ideas and experiences with other professionals in the field.
