The traditional spring ANTIQUE fair will take place for the fifty-second time this year, once again offering a unique opportunity to admire and acquire rare historical artifacts. The event will be held from April 24–27, 2025, at the New Town Hall on Charles Square in Prague, with the main theme being the magic of Czech glass.
More than forty renowned antique dealers from Bohemia and Moravia will present carefully selected pieces from various historical periods. Visitors can look forward not only to a sales exhibition but also to an accompanying program full of fascinating lectures and thematic expositions.
Czech glass is one of the most significant symbols of local craftsmanship and art. Its rich history dates back to the Renaissance when products from Dubá, Soví Huť, and the estates of Peter Vok of Rožmberk were highly sought after. Czech engraved and cut glass reached its peak in the 17th and 18th centuries, when new technologies and innovative approaches made it a highly regarded item on the world market. The turn of the 19th and 20th centuries saw another period of growth, with glassmakers such as Loetz in Klášterský Mlýn, Moser in Karlovy Vary, and the iridescent glassworks Palmme König and Wilhelm Kralik Sonne gaining prestigious recognition worldwide.
A thematic exhibition will be part of the fair, connecting the past with the present. Visitors will have the opportunity to view not only historical glass masterpieces but also works by contemporary glass artists such as Vladimír Klein and Jaromír Rybák. The exhibition will be complemented by expert lectures detailing the history and technological milestones of Czech glassmaking.
“Czech glass is a fascinating intersection of tradition, artistic creativity, and master craftsmanship. From Renaissance goblets to modern designer collections, it remains a sought-after collector’s item and an elegant interior accent,” says Jan Neumann, president of the Antique Dealers Association. Vice President Simona Šustková adds: “Today, we have access to a wide range of high-quality historical glass, and the current market conditions favor buyers. Thanks to the diversity of styles, everyone can find something that suits their taste.”
However, the ANTIQUE fair is not only a place for history enthusiasts and collectors. It also attracts investors looking for interesting opportunities to appreciate their capital, as well as visitors wanting to enrich their homes with unique historical pieces. A free advisory service will also be available, where experts will help evaluate antiques or provide restoration advice.
The fair will be open from Thursday to Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM, and on Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Once again, the spring ANTIQUE fair promises a diverse selection for all antique lovers and a unique atmosphere that bridges the past and present.
