This year’s Castles and Chateaus Night will take place on Saturday, August 22. Dozens of castles, chateaus, and other historic sites throughout the Czech Republic will remain open after dark, offering visitors unique experiences in the form of unconventional tours and an evening filled with stories, music, and theater. Experience the unique evening atmosphere of these historic sites!
The centerpiece of Castle and Chateau Night 2026 will be Horšovský Týn Castle and Chateau, one of the main sites featured in this year’s edition of the project “In the Footsteps of Noble Families: Nobility on the Move.” Experience Japan with all your senses and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Land of the Rising Sun—you can look forward to tours of an exhibition about the Japanese Countess Mitsuko, samurai duels, the art of calligraphy, origami-folding, trying on traditional clothing, and listening to Japanese drumming.
Litomyšl Castle invites you to explore its newest tour route, “The Story of the Castle Theater,” which showcases the 18th-century private theater of the Counts of Wallenstein, along with accompanying exhibits featuring stage sets, replica costumes, and theatrical decorations that have until now been hidden away in storage. The theatrical scenes will be enhanced by dances ranging from the Gothic period to the First Republic, performed by the Villanella ensemble.
Are you drawn to the evening atmosphere of a castle? Head to Švihov, where you can experience the castle’s interiors in a unique atmosphere during nighttime tours, transporting you back to the Gothic and Renaissance periods. A truly rich program awaits you here: dance performances in historical costumes, musical performances, falconry demonstrations, and much more. The highlight of the evening will be a concert by the band Ginevra.
If you’re a true backpacker at heart, you’ll surely be intrigued by the chance to sit by a campfire right at the castle—that’s exactly what castles like Házmburk or Trosky have to offer.
Fans of the First Republic should head to the Stiassni Villa in Brno, where they can travel back in time to experience the swing, elegance, and charm of the 1930s.
Ploskovice Castle will be seeking a caretaker through dramatized, costumed tours that draw visitors into the story and bring the castle’s interiors to life with tales from the past. Candlelight, the tranquility of the evening, and living characters will transform the tour into a beautiful, unforgettable experience.
Many other historic sites are preparing costumed tours—for example, the castles of Stekník, Opočno, and Třeboň. At Zákupy Castle, you can look forward to a tour accompanied by His Imperial Majesty, Franz Joseph I.
If you prefer a more relaxed itinerary, we recommend self-guided tours of castles and chateaus. Explore the sites at your own pace and enjoy the unique nighttime atmosphere—visit, for example, Landštejn, Rabí, Točník, and Kunětická hora castles, or the chateaus in Náchod and Libochovice.
Partner historic sites not managed by the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) also traditionally participate in the Castles and Palaces Night—more than 40 sites maintained by enthusiastic private owners, municipalities, or associations. For example, the castles of Dobříš, Častolovice, Loučeň, Kunín, Moravský Krumlov, and Osečany, as well as the castles of Loket, Český Šternberk, Špilberk, Valdštejn, and many others, will offer an interesting program for visitors.
No matter which historic site you visit, we wish everyone a wonderful experience and a beautiful Castles and Palaces Night 2026!
