The new exhibition Restoring the Treasures of the National Library will take visitors into the secrets of caring for historical volumes, which will be available for free at the Klementinum Gallery.
The exhibition introduces visitors to what needs to be done to preserve books for future generations. Different professions are presented, such as restorer, conservator, bookbinder, microbiologist, restoration technologist, climatologist, etc., as well as the history of preserving collections and the personalities who were at the birth of this field. The tools used and specific materials for restoration and conservation are on display. A wide range of restoration techniques are presented by way of examples of specific complex restoration interventions on historic books.
