Christmas and Winter Motifs in 19th Century Art is a specific and unique online lecture that selectively focuses on the most common motifs of winter and the holidays. Thus, we invite you to join us for a special walk through the NGP’s online collections, where our only criteria of interest will be the amount of snow, trees and candles. We will imagine how the depiction of Winter as allegory has changed over the centuries, look at the evolution of depictions of the Nativity and the Adoration of the Three Kings, and through 19th century genre painting and landscape painting, we will explain some of the archetypes of Christmas that we still experience today in the season of Advent. The lecture will be given by Monika Švec Sybolová, NGP educator. Enrich the festive atmosphere with art and new knowledge!
Duration: approx. 70 min.
The event will take place online, on the Facebook page of the National Gallery Prague.
