On May 31 and June 1, a slice of Japan will move right into the heart of Budapest: the special Japanese Festival will take place at the KULT7 event center, offering two full days for visitors to immerse themselves in the magical culture of the Land of the Rising Sun!
Organized by the Hungarian–Japanese Friendship Society, the event will bring the atmosphere of an authentic Natsu Matsuri — a traditional Japanese summer festival — blending timeless traditions with youthful energy and freshness.
During the Japan Days, a wide range of activities awaits:
Visitors will not only admire but also try their hand at traditional Japanese arts and customs.
Creative workshops will include origami folding, calligraphy, mizuhiki (Japanese cord tying), and sashiko (traditional embroidery).
The experience will be further enriched by numerous Japanese-themed quizzes, and brave participants will even have the chance to try on a real summer yukata.
Food lovers will also be delighted:
Authentic Japanese vendors will bring the flavors of Japan closer to visitors, ensuring that everyone can find something to savor.
Alongside tastings, fascinating lectures on Japanese culture and history will be held throughout the day by renowned domestic and international experts.
Each afternoon’s highlight will be the Natsu Matsuri, starting every day at 5:00 PM, when the courtyard of Kult7 transforms into a real summer festival scene.
Visitors can enjoy live music, learn a traditional Japanese dance, and even rent a Happi coat for the full authentic experience.
Exciting competitions are also part of the festival:
Participants can showcase their talents in haiku writing, drawing, photography, and cosplay contests, with valuable prizes awarded to the winners.
Additionally, a raffle will be held throughout the day, offering everyone a chance to win prizes, even without competing.
The Japanese Festival warmly welcomes all ages:
Whether you are just starting to explore Japanese culture or have been a passionate fan for years, you will find something to love.
Over the course of these two days, Kult7 will become a vibrant community space where tradition and modern vitality walk hand in hand.
Admission is available by purchasing tickets in advance.
