Strangers Cafe

Another wonderful new wave café has been added to the city centre of Budapest. You can now find specility cafés in almost every district, but the huge interest in quality coffee seems to mean that we have more and more places to try. And Stranger Cafe doesn’t let up on the quality, so it’s worth a visit to see if you can find a new hangout!

The Stranger Café was opened by the founders of the film production company of the same name in Katona József Street, District XIII. Although the name means ‘strange’, Stranger is very much a homey place, and it is no coincidence that it has the working title of Újlipótváros’s living room . The bookshelf, the comfortable armchair, the vintage posters from Ethiopia in the 80s, the children’s corner all make you feel like you’re in a friend’s living room or even your own. As Stranger is a café, the emphasis is on coffee, but not just the popular specialty coffee, here they believe in Italian, as the La Marzocco on the counter suggests. The specialty is an Ethiopian coffee (Wush Wush), due to one of the owners’ childhood there and the coffee’s Ethiopian roots. There are also many other delicacies such as chai and matcha lattes, fibre teas and hot chocolates. In a café, food is a standard, so there are sandwiches made on the premises, pastries and cookies, and everything is lactose-free, gluten-free and vegan. The bagels are provided by Tom′s Bagels, the free baked goods by Alexa Free Bakery and the smoothies by Bageri. If you’ve already explored the small cafés on Bratislava Road and are looking for a more spacious, really cosy café, whether alone, with company or even with your pet, Stranger is worth a stroll, as you’re guaranteed to be a return customer!
