For a refreshing all-round arts experience, a visit to the Trafó House of Contemporary Art is well worth it. Trafó is a unique venue in Hungary, embedded in the international contemporary scene. With performances, concerts, exhibitions and community-building programmes designed for audiences open to new things, it strives to present valuable performances to audiences every time. In addition, Trafó has a special focus on young people and a commitment to social issues. It is a platform for creating values and context, a generator of new ideas and productions.

Operating inside and outside the walls of the former transformer house, its professional programme is multi-faceted, inter-genre, experimental and audience-friendly, building on both new directions and cultural memory. It allows both national and international artists to present their work in a unique and authentic way.

This season, 2023/2024, will start with the international group exhibition “Lávatalaj/Lava Soil”.
Trafó Gallery’s latest exhibition borrows its title from the game Floor is Lava, which is better known in our country for computer games and reality TV adaptations. The idea of the game is that because the floor has turned into lava, you can only step on objects on the ground. Stepping on the ground leads to the death of the player, or rather to his exclusion from the game. According to the rules of the game, the way to avoid the dangers that are constantly lurking is to keep jumping from one place to another – a strategy that, in addition to forcing us to re-tune our relationship with our environment, can also be interpreted as a metaphor for the contradictions between conservative heteropatriarchal social arrangements and critical feminist, queer discourses.
