Come and discover the magic and culture of India with us. The Arena Theatre and the World Music Festival bring you two exceptional events: the Sur Varsha Quintet and the exclusive dance performance LOK CHHANDA.

1. Sur Varsha Quintet

The name of the Indian, female quintet Sur Varsha translates as “rain of tones”. Seeing five Indian musicians on one stage is truly an unusual phenomenon and we will have this opportunity in Bratislava for the first time. This extraordinary ensemble of Hindustani music and their virtuoso interpretation on exotic traditional instruments promises profound experiences.

Its artistic director is Gouri Banerjee, an excellent player of the stringed instrument sarangi. Her teammates at the Bratislava concert will be Shruti Adhikari, who plays the santur, Moisilee Dutta, who masters the sarod, Shrabani Biswas will play the sitar and Ratnashree Ramachandra Iyer will play the tabla percussion. In their performance, Indian music will offer experiences where every note resonates with the rhythm and beauty of nature.

2. LOK CHHANDA – Exclusive Dance Performance

Exclusive performance by the prestigious Indian dance group Lok Chhanda, which specializes in traditional folk and classical Indian dance in a modern version, and is known for its visually impressive choreographies.

Lok Chhanda is a prominent Indian dance group that specializes in traditional folk and classical Indian dance in a modern version.

As part of their European tour, they will offer their only performance in Slovakia in Bratislava. The group is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich culture and heritage of India. Their dance performances are characterized by visually impressive choreographies, where the spiritual poetry of Sufi masters is embodied in dance and a performance that is inspired by the poetic mythical stories of the gods of India. The dance, beautiful colorful costumes from different Indian regions and impressive music have enchanted audiences at many major festivals abroad.

The event is held in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Slovakia and as part of the World Music Festival Bratislava 2026.

Modern/contemporary dance company LOK CHHANDA presents two productions based on the dance styles of Kathak and Chhau, under the direction of renowned choreographer Maitreyee Pahari.

MAHARAAS

Maharaas production is based on the Kathak dance style and brings modern choreography based on the story of Krishna as a divine experience, in an atmosphere saturated with spiritual devotion (bhakti).
