Program:

Honey, our neighbor is a murderer

Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 PM, viewers can look forward to the comedy Zlatko, our neighbor is a murderer + a minimasterclass by Katarína Mišíková. The funny, Hitchcock-style film set in a Parisian neighborhood with the atmosphere of Agatha Christie novels follows a film professor and detective author who begin to suspect their eccentric neighbor of murder. The thrilling play, full of irony, romance, and unexpected twists, will also revive their stagnant relationship. The screening will be followed by a minimasterclass by film theorist Katarína Mišíková entitled “How to Say McGuffin in French.” It will focus on the fascinating dialogue between French and American cinema and how French cinephiles read Hitchcock then and now.

The Richest Woman in the World

Friday, May 29th at 6:30 PM, will feature The Richest Woman in the World + a Forbes discussion. The drama loosely inspired by the scandal surrounding the heiress of the L’Oréal empire, presented in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival, tells a story of power, money and manipulation. Isabelle Huppert excels in the lead role as the richest woman in the world, whose unexpected friendship with a charismatic Parisian dandy sets in motion a series of events with serious consequences. An exclusive discussion with Forbes magazine will follow the screening.

French Institute Day

Saturday, May 30th, will be marked by French Institute Day in Slovakia. A special program dedicated to French culture and the French language awaits viewers. Viewers will have the opportunity to learn more about French courses at FIS, practice their conversational skills in French in the informal atmosphere of the Edison Filmhub café, or learn a little French right in the cinema before screenings of selected films.

The Dance Hall Film

On this day, at 5:00 PM, we will also be showing the film The Dance Hall + a discussion with Martin Hub, moderated by Silvia Hroncová. Ettore Scola’s Oscar-nominated film follows the transformation of the Parisian dance hall from 1936 to 1983 and captures the history of Europe through human destinies. The film was based on a theatrical original, which was later performed with great success for many years by the Slovak National Theatre Drama Theatre, directed by Martin Huba, with Ladislav Chudík in the lead role. After the screening, there will be a discussion with the prominent Slovak actor and director of this legendary production on the boards of the Slovak National Theatre Drama Theatre, Martin Hub, moderated by theatrologist Silvia Hroncová.

Unattainable Love

Sunday, May 31st at 6:00 PM, will bring the powerful romantic drama Unattainable Love + a discussion by Dada Nagy with translator Aňa Ostrihoňová. The emotional story of love, social differences and fateful decisions, based on the novel by Christine Angot, was directed by Catherine Corsini and stars the charming Virginie Efira. The intelligent, captivating melodrama with unexpected twists will be enriched by a subsequent discussion between presenter and literary columnist Dada Nagy and translator of the novel of the same name, Aňa Ostrihoňová.

Comédie-Française

Monday, June 1st at 6:30 PM will feature the comedy Comédie-Française + Michal Havran’s Round Table. The dynamic film will take a look behind the scenes of the legendary Parisian theater, where almost everything that can go wrong goes wrong in the three hours before the premiere of Macbeth. The screening will be followed by a discussion between Michal Havran and his special guests – the charismatic Slovak actor and member of the Slovak National Theatre Drama Company, Alexandr Bárta, and the prominent Slovak translator from French, Elena Flašková, who works at the Department of Directing and Dramaturgy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, where she teaches French literature and leads a translation seminar.

Guru

Tuesday, June 2nd at 6:30 p.m. will feature the film Guru + the discussion Prítomie příslušné. The gripping drama follows the rise of a charismatic personal development coach who conquers France, but behind the image of success, manipulation, psychological pressure and power games are gradually revealed. The screening will be enriched with a discussion with Zuzana Šifra Matuščáková and psychologist Lenka Pavuková Rušarová from the Prítomie podcast on the topics of influence, manipulation and emotional dependence.

Student Jury Results Ceremony

Thursday, June 4th at 6:30 PM, the Student Jury Results Ceremony + Zlatko, Our Neighbor is a Murderer will conclude.
