The 11th edition of Crème de la Crème – French Film Week will bring the best of contemporary 🇫🇷 French cinema to Slovakia from May 27 to June 3, 2026. Don’t miss out on the best French films!
In May, Crème de la Crème will present an attractive collection of French films that have won awards at prestigious film festivals or from leading film institutions. Get ready for days filled with romance, humor, and relationship dramas that reflect the dynamics of today’s France in their stories.
1. Bolero
A historical drama about the creation of Maurice Ravel’s famous composition Bolero. The film portrays the composer’s creative crisis and his journey to craft a universally acclaimed masterpiece.
2. Animale
A mysterious drama with horror elements. Nejma, a teenage girl preparing for a bullfighting competition, experiences strange changes after being attacked by a bull. Meanwhile, the village is haunted by a series of mysterious deaths.
3. Sarah Bernhardt, the Divine
A biographical film about the legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt, focusing on two key moments of her life – the amputation of her leg in 1915 and a grand celebration in 1896. The film also delves into her passionate relationship with actor Lucien Guitry.
4. Foreign Language (Langue étrangère)
A romantic drama exploring interpersonal relationships and cultural differences in a multicultural setting.
5. The Deluge (Le Déluge)
A historical drama with biographical elements portraying a period of major societal change and the personal struggles of its main characters.
6. The Apparition (L’apparition)
A journalist is tasked with investigating an alleged apparition of the Virgin Mary in a small village. His journey leads to deep questions about faith and truth.
7. Lumière! The Adventure Continues
A documentary showcasing restored footage from the Lumière brothers, offering a look at the beginnings of cinematography.
8. La Haine
A cult classic black-and-white drama from 1995 capturing 24 hours in the lives of three young men from a Paris suburb following riots. It examines themes of violence, racism, and social inequality.
