Football in the City

Football in the City is a nationwide tournament for young football talents under 11 years of age, which takes place in unconventional locations. The ambassador of the event is the Slovak football representative Marek Hamšík.

The final will be attended by 16 finalists from eight semi-final rounds from all over Slovakia.

⚽ What is “Football in the City”?

Football in the City is a sports and entertainment event organized by the Union of League Clubs (ÚLK) with the company BILLA for people as the main sponsor.

🌍 Where and when is the tournament taking place?

The tournament takes place from the end of April to August 2025 in a total of eight cities in Slovakia, such as Bratislava, Prešov, Košice, Nitra, Žilina, Banská Bystrica and others.

The finalists (the 16 best teams) meet in August for the final in Bratislava, often right on the promenade on the Danube embankment near Eurovea or shopping centers.

🧒 Who can participate?

Designed for young football talents under 11 years of age (e.g. born in 2012 and younger).

Approximately 100 teams will participate in the semi-finals, with 16 advancing to the final.

Boys, girls and mixed teams will compete.

🏅 Event program

The semi-final rounds and final are played in a structured manner:

Team registration (standard from 8:30),

Group stage until lunchtime,

Exhibition matches, freestyle shows, skill competitions and autograph sessions with Hamšík and other personalities,

Qualification matches,

Announcement of winners and award ceremony (annual prizes of up to €20,000 for sports equipment).

It also includes a cultural and entertainment program, a freestyle show, and interactive attractions for children and families.

Project goal:

The goal is to bring football back to the streets, squares or in front of shopping centers – to bring it closer to people and present it to children as a fun game that they can play outside of stadiums.

The event serves as a stage for promising talents who want to move forward in sports in the future – with the support of ambitious prizes and role models like Hamšík.
