Hidden treasures and history of Bratislava. This time we will discover together the historically significant districts in the city centre, namely Vydrica and Zuckermandel on Sunday, 4 May from 15:00 on a unique tour and lecture with Andrea Turanska.
Only fragments of the original architecture have survived from the Bratislava Podhradie. These two settlements – Vydrica and Zuckermandel have an extremely rich history closely connected with Bratislava. Through their stories we will get to know many important personalities and recall important events and connections from the history of our city.
Thanks to the opening of the streets of Vydrica, we will walk directly on the places where these stories took place. We will start our tour at the Bratislava Meridian, pass by the Water Tower, look into the ice pits, see Kempelen’s water pipe, tell the story of the Holy Trinity Church and the famous Father Scherz who worked here for many years. Through the well-preserved Renaissance courtyards on Zuckermandl we will recall the times of the Ottoman wars and the Reformation, and through the modern blocks we will also get a glimpse of the totalitarian times of our history and the controversial 1990s. We’ll see how far we go, but we’ll be sure to stop at the memorial to Chatam Sofer and our fellow Jews of Old Bratislava.
Wear comfortable shoes, we’ll be walking up and down the stairs. Adjust your clothes to the weather. It can be windy on the Danube.
ATTENTION!
In case of very bad weather, the tour will be moved to another date (possible only at the organizer’s discretion). In this case we will inform you about the change. If the new date does not suit you, your money will be refunded.
