A discussion with Dutch author Bibi Schreuder on how to understand children and be a better parent.
Being a parent is one of the most challenging and at the same time most beautiful tasks in life. But how do you not get lost in the multitude of approaches to parenting and find a way that empowers both you and your children?
The book IF CHILDREN COULD BE CHILDREN by renowned Dutch author Bibi Schreuder brings a fresh, systemic perspective on parenting that can be an inspiration to you.
You will learn what a systemic approach is, your questions will be answered and there will be a book signing. Come glean new insights and inspiration to help you create authentic relationships with your children.
This book deals with children and adults and their place in the hierarchy for a family to function harmoniously. In fact, adults sometimes unconsciously remain internally in the position of the child. Children then cannot help themselves and have to react to this. For example, sometimes they are cheeky, which we perceive as inappropriate, or they behave particularly helpful from our point of view – they are very caring, for example, and in such cases, ultimately, nobody has a good time. It is only when everyone occupies their own place that all adults and all children can live fully. The book contains many exercises that you can do anywhere and attend to them when it suits you. You don’t have to attend a seminar or workshop. It is quite enough if you try the exercises the author offers. Even if you don’t do any of the exercises offered, Bibi Schreuder guides you step by step through the most basic topics that are associated with children.
Co-founder and long-time trainer of the Bert Hellinger Institute in the Netherlands. She is one of the first to bring and develop work with systemic constellations in the Netherlands. With her stubborn “see first, believe later” attitude, she has already enabled many parents, teachers, child therapists and other workers with children to access their own systemic perceptions during her practice.
