Concert on November 17th in the club under the lamp. The PPU Egon Bondy Tour 2024 concert is a celebration of 17 November and three decades of the Czech Centre Bratislava in Slovakia. Come and celebrate with us at the .klub pod lampou.
The concert line-up consists of former Plastic People members Josef Janíček (keyboards, vocals and long-time bandleader), Jan Brabec (drums, vocals), Vladimír Dědek (trombone), Tomáš Schilla (cello, vocals) and Ivan Bierhanzl (bass guitar). The band returns to its roots in this line-up, as the guitar has always been absent from its main albums.
This year marks an incredible 50 years since one of the most famous albums of Czechoslovak culture, Egon Bondy’s Happy Hearts Cub Banned by The Plastic People Of The Universe, began recording at Houska Castle. The title was meant to parody the Beatles’ “Sergeant Pepper”, but sonically and lyrically it was a completely different affair: raw music, sometimes psychedelic, sometimes dark rock, sometimes cacophonous with free-jazz solos, but always easily recognizable and unique, even on a global scale. And to this, Egon Bondy’s merciless lyrics.
And it was this anniversary that prompted Guerilla Records to approach several musicians associated with the band’s name to commemorate the anniversary in concerts featuring the aforementioned album. And something extra. Those interested will be able to take the aforementioned recording home; Guerilla Records is even releasing it as a double album, for the first time in its complete form, with the fourth side being a recording of the Plastiks’ concert on January 31, 1975, when they played as a “wedding gift” at the wedding of Jaroslava and Jaroslav Kukal.
